Information as of 2006: Kristi Courter graduated from Central High School, Grand Junction, CO in 1979 where she was a three year letter winner in basketball. At Central High she holds records for the most points scored in a game and for the season. She was a three year All-Conference, two year All-State, and the first All-American lady basketball player for Central High School. Her coach, Karl Craig, retired her number after her senior year. Additionally, she led the state in 3A scoring with an average of 25 points per game.
While at Mesa State College, Kristi had numerous special achievements, ranking in the top ten in more than twelve different categories. She holds the school record for most points scored in a single game (42), and average points per game for a season (24). Her 24 points per game in a season remains a league record. She was a two time Rocky Mountain Athletic All-Conference honoree in basketball and an RMAC All-Conference softball selection (catcher).
Kristi was an assistant basketball coach at Fruita High School in 1988-1989, assistant basketball coach at Central High School 1990-1997, and assistant softball coach at Central High School 1990-1997. While at Central High School the team qualified for state tournament six times.
Kristi has been employed at Mesa Development Services for 20 years helping individuals with disabilities find work in this community. She has been active in Special Olympics and Supported Employment. She is an active Board Member for Colorado APSE - The Network on Employment. She has gained the respect by all those who work with her and has received statewide recognition for her strong commitment to people with developmental disabilities. Her staff nominated her and she received the 2003 COAPSE Outstanding Leadership in Supported Employment Award.
Kristi currently lives in Grand Junction with her two children, Kelty Lynn (5) and Kolbi Isabelle (3). Her family loves to hike, camp, canoe, and play in the outdoors.
