Information as of 2001: Jon came to Mesa State in 1988 after attending San Diego State University on a basketball scholarship from 1986-1987. He was a standout basketball player for MSC from 1988-1991 and was a three-time District VII player of the year. He is the all-time leading scorer in the school's history (2,227 points) and also holds the school record for field goal percentage (73.9), free throws made (490), rebound average (10.1) and field goals made (833). Jon is also the second all-time leader in scoring average (24.5).
"Jon's success was a direct result of his hard work and dedication to the game and to MSC. He has left a monumental impression on MSC basketball," states Paul Cain, Jon's former roommate and teammate. Another teammate, Jeremy Cox said, "Over the past 10 years, my appreciation and admiration for Jon has only grown. As a coach, I realize that players with the ability and attitude that Jon possesses is a rarity, and we are always looking for a 'Jon Baskin'."
Jon graduated from Steamboat Springs High School where he excelled in basketball, track and football. After attending SDSU and receiving his bachelor's degree from MSC, he continued his education at the University of Nebraska where he received his master's degree. Jon resides in Denver with his wife, Louise, and daughter Julia. He is a marketing associate with Nobel-Sysco Foods.
