Hall of Honor
Information as of 2004: Michael Vaughn's high school sports career at Rangeview High School in Aurora, Colorado was outstanding. He was named to the All State football and lacrosse teams and also participated in track and basketball. He was inducted into Rangeview's Hall of Honor…Michael had numerous special athletic achievements as a Mesa State Maverick. In 1987, 1988, and 1989, Mike was named All Conference. In 1987 and in 1988 he was selected to the All-America team. He was the RMAC leading rusher in 1987, 1988 and 1989. His NAIA national career rushing record of 4,161 yards still holds. Mike holds the record for; most yards in one game (320); most yards in a season (1,384), most yards in a career (4,161); rushing attempts in a game (39); rushing attempts in a career (609); best rushing average in a game (15.2 yards); best rushing average in a season (7.9 yards); best rushing average in a career (6.83 yards); best rushing average per game (164.4 yards); most rushing touchdowns in a game (4); most rushing touchdowns in a season (21); most rushing touchdowns in a career (43); most points in a game (24), most points in a season (126); most touchdowns in a season (22); and most touchdowns in a career (49). Doug Schakel, former men's basketball coach and Athletic Director, said, "Michael played was an integral part of the success for the Mavs' football teams in the 1980's. In addition to his many honors and accomplishments, Michael Vaughn conducted himself with integrity and class. He exemplifies what membership in the Hall of Honor is all about." He played professional football in the Canadian Football League. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario and is presently self-employed with Vaughn Enterprises.
