General
  • Thirteen different Maverick teams will be in action between Tuesday and Sunday of this week while another (men's golf) will begin their spring season next Monday.
  • Six of those will be at home this weekend, including five who will play at home on Saturday alone.
  • Eight different Maverick teams are nationally-ranked in various coaching organization or media polls, four of which are ranked amongst the nation's top 10.
Swimming & Diving
  • The Mavericks swept the RMAC men's and women's team titles for the eight straight year, closing out a dominant 4 ½ day meet in the El Pomar Natatorium on Saturday night.

  • The Mavs won 32 gold and 71 total medals throughout meet while the rest of the conference won just 10 events and 56 medals combined.
  • The Mavericks set nine new RMAC Championship records and six new school records throughout the week.
  • The Maverick men won all five relay and 17 of the 21 total events to win their tenth title in program history, extending their RMAC record.  They picked up 38 of the total medals as the rest of the conference won 26 combined. 
  • The Maverick women 15 events and 33 medals while the other eight teams combined for six gold and 30 total medals.
  • The Mavs also swept the post-meet awards with Aron Jonsson and Olivia Hansson claiming the Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Meet awards, based on points scored in individual events.
  • Jonsson swept the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and helped the Mavs' win the 400 medley relay.  He also took third in both the 200 and 400 individual medley.
  • Hansson won the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events and anchored the Mavs' RMAC Championship record setting 800 free relay team.
  • She also broke her own school record in the 500 free.
  • Ada Qunell also won five gold and a silver medals while helping the Mavs set RMAC records in the 400 Medley and 800 Free Relays.
  • Guillaume Guth also won gold medals in all seven of his events (3 individual, 4 relay) and set RMAC meet records in five of them.  He also broke the school record in the 100 fly as well as 200 free and 800 free relays.
  • The Maverick also went 1-2-3 in all four diving events as Kenya Meyer swept the women's titles and the Diver of the Meet for the second straight year.  She also set the RMAC Championship and broke her own school-record in the 1-meter event.
  • Ryan Campbell, who won the men's 1-meter, and David Roethlisberger, who took the 3-meter, shared the RMAC Men's Diver of the Meet honor.
  • The Mavericks continue to sit third (women's) and fourth (men's), in the February edition of the CSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 Dual Meet Poll.
  • The Mavs will host a Last Chance Meet on Saturday at 10 a.m. before NCAA Championship selections will come out next week.
Women's Basketball
  • The Mavericks, ranked fourth in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll, extended their winning streak to 23 games with home wins over Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands last week.
  • The Mavs are now 26-1 overall and a perfect 16-0 in RMAC play.
  • They are now 11-0 at home this season and have won 33 consecutive RMAC games over the past two seasons.
  • The Mavs' No. 4 national ranking is their best since the end of the 2013-14 season, when they were ranked as high as second.
  • The current 23-game winning streak is the second longest in program history, trailing only the 25-game streak that the Mavs used to post a 25-0 start to the 2013-14 campaign, when they reached as high as No. 2 in the national poll.
  • Olivia Reed Thyne had 23 points and 15 rebounds in Thursday's 69-50 win over Fort Lewis.
  • Mason Rowland also had 19 points and seven assists while Mykaela Moore had 11 points and five assists.
  • The Mavs' defense held Fort Lewis to 29.8 percent (17-57) shooting.
  • Reed Thyne then scored 29 points while grabbing 18 rebounds in Saturday's 72-51 win over New Mexico Highlands.
  • Rowland also finished with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
  • Moore had seven points and nine rebounds.
  • The Mavericks now lead the RMAC standings by three full games after second place Adams State went 0-2 with road losses at Western Colorado and Westminster.
  • CMU can clinch a share of the RMAC title and the No. 1 seed as soon as Tuesday night, when the Mavs play at Westminster.
  • They will then return home to take on Western Colorado in their final regular season home game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • The Mavs will recognize four fourth-year players (Macy Larsen, Moore, Kailey Page) Reed Thyne, following that game.
  • The Mavs rank third in the nation for scoring defense (51.0) and fourth for scoring margin (+22.9) and field goal percentage defense (33.0).
  • Reed Thyne is now averaging 20.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game and ranks third in the country for total rebounds (296) and fifth for points (561).
  • Reed Thyne now stands third in Colorado collegiate history (all divisions) for career rebounds (1,270) and fifth for points (2,157).
  • Rowland, a redshirt sophomore, now has 968 career points and will enter the week just 32 away from the 1,000 milestone.
Men's Basketball
  • The Mavericks (17-7, 13-3 RMAC) extended their winning streak to seven games with home wins over Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands.
  • The Mavs are now 10-1 at home this season and have the longest current winning streak in the league.
  • The Mavs matched a school-record by hitting 18 3-pointers in Thursday's 100-76 win over Fort Lewis, which forged a 3-way tie in the RMAC standings at the time.
  • The Mavs reached the 100 point mark for the time since Feb. 16, 2024 when they scored 105 on Feb. 27, 2024 at Westminster.
  • They also reached triple digits at home for the first time since Jan. 25, 2022 (101 vs. Colorado Christian)
  • Ty Allred had 25 points and a career-high six assists as the Mavs dished out 25 assists while shooting 61.1 percent (33-54) from the field.
  • Ben Henderson scored a season-high 23 on 7-for 11 shooting.
  • In Saturday's 85-80 win over New Mexico Highlands, Clayton Jewell had a season-high 22 points and 12 rebounds to record his sixth double-double of the season.
  • He was named as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier Monday afternoon..
  • Harvey White also added 18 points while Wes Ball and Jaylen Pitman both had 16.
  • Pitman's total was a career-high and his third straight double-figure effort.
  • The Mavs are now tied for first place in the conference standings with Black Hills State and are a game ahead of Fort Lewis, which lost for the fourth straight time on Saturday at Western Colorado.
  • CMU has clinched a RMAC Tournament spot and are in control of their own destiny for a potential regular season championship and No. 1 seed in the RMAC Tournament.
  • Ty Allred now has 986 career points and will enter Tuesday night's game in his home state (Utah) at Westminster just 14 away from the 1,000 milestone.
  • He will then be recognized in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony prior to the Mavs' 3 p.m. Saturday game against Western Colorado, their final home game of the regular season.
Baseball
  • The Mavs, ranked 12th in last week's NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Division II Poll, swept their first home series of the year, taking all four games from Quincy.
  • They are also second in the NCBWA's South Central Regional poll.
  • The Mavs, who are now 6-2 and on a 5-game winning streak, came from behind in all four victories.
  • In Friday's 10-5 win, the Mavs railed 5-1 through 3 ½ innings before scoring four runs in the fourth inning and taking a 7-5 lead on a Kolby Felix 2-run homer in the sixth.
  • They then swept Saturday's doubleheader, 8-6 and 6-2.
  • In the first game CMU again scored four runs in an inning (3rd) to take a 6-5 lead after falling behind 5-2.  The bullpen combination of Aidan Biaggi, Gabe Jacobs and CJ Zwahlen allowed just two runs while striking out 10 in 7.2 innings of work.  Zwahlen earned a 3-inning save without giving up any runs.
  • The Mavs then scored five sixth-inning runs after trailing 2-1 in the second game of the doubleheader, a 7-inning affair.
  • In Sunday's 12-9 win, the Mavericks trailed 8-7 going in to the bottom of the eighth, as Kennedy Hara hit a go-ahead 2-run double as part of 5-run inning to the Mavs the win.
  • Freshman Jackson Eisenhauer threw four shutout innings allowing just three hits while recording seven strikeouts in Sunday's game.
  • Trevor Tse hit .500 (7-14) with two doubles and a home run and five RBIs to lead the Mavs offense during the series.
  • Twelve different Maverick relief pitchers worked during the series as all four wins were credited to bullpen pitchers (Biaggi, Cayden Clark, Logan Gross, Justin Schramm)
  • CMU hit .344 as a team throughout the series.
  • The Mavs will remain at home for 12 more games, including a 4-game set this week against MSU Billings, beginning with a 2 p.m. game on Thursday.  The Mavs will then host a doubleheader at Noon on Friday before closing out the series with another noon game on Saturday.
Women's Wrestling
  • The Mavs were off last weekend but will make history this weekend when they head to St. Charles, Missouri for the NCAA Region 6 Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
  • This is the first year that the NCAA has had women's wrestling as a championship sport.
  • The top three finishers in each weight class from each of the six regionals around the country will advance to the NCAA National Championships on Mar. 6-7 in Coralville, Iowa.
  • The Mavs are now ranked eighth in the nation, according to the pre-regional championship set of the NWCA's NCAA Coaches' Rankings as a team and continue have five individually ranked wrestlers.
  • That list includes Mia Zuniga (3rd, 103 lbs.), Sophia Cornish (8th, 117), Lorianna Piestewa (5th, 124) Sophia Cornish (10th, 117), Gretchen Donally (10th, 145) and Jayleen Sekona (7th, 207).
Track & Field
  • The Mavericks set four new school records and four NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying marks during a successful weekend in three separate locations.
  • On Friday at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan, freshman Vasileios Salpas (1:50.66) and Clayton Wilson (8:16.94) both took down school records in the 800 and 3,000 meters, respectively.  Both of the former records had been held by 2-time all-American Tony Torres.
  • Salpas' time was also a NCAA Championship provisional qualifying effort.
  • In the Saturday GVSU Big Meet, the women's distance medley relay team of Brooke Miller, Kammi Merritt, Jordan Staniszewski and Megan Hodges then smashed the women's distance medley records by more than 21 seconds with a time of 11:48.60, also a  NCAA provisional time.
  • Merritt also had a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 56.41 seconds in the 400 meters on Friday.
  • Meanwhile, Sophomore Van Chambers smashed the Maverick record by nearly two feet with a NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 18.58 meters (60-11.5) at Saturday's Mountain Lion Open in Colorado Springs.
  • The Mavericks also had a group of runners at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the Mavs had some solid efforts on both Friday and Saturday.
  • Throughout the weekend, the Mavericks racked up 20 new marks on the program's all-time top-10 performers charts.
  • The Mavericks will take a contingent to this weekend's RMAC Last Chance Qualifier in Gunnison, a final chance to qualify for or tune-up for the RMAC Championships that will be held there on Feb. 27-28.
Women's Lacrosse Men's Lacrosse
  • The Mavericks opened up their RMAC slate with a 19-4 win at Adams State on Saturday.
  • The Mavs are now 2-0 this season.
  • CMU is ranked 13th in Monday's USILA NCAA Division II Poll after sitting 12th last week and 14th in the preseason.
  • Dillon Pless, Aidan Brock and Ari Villano all recorded hat-tricks to lead the Maverick offense in Saturday's win.
  • Jack Cooper and Camden Moody also scored two goals a piece.
  • Pless now has hat-tricks in both of CMU's games and leads CMU with six goals.
  • Brock, a redshirt freshman, and Villano, a true freshman, both recorded their first hat-tricks and first collegiate goals.
  • Four different reserve goalkeepers saw action in the game, combining for six saves.
  • Freshman Boaz Brown got the start and the win and made three of those saves.
  • The Mavs are 35-0 all-time against the Grizzlies since both teams started their programs in 2011.
  • CMU will be off until playing their first home game on Thursday, Mar. 5 against Florida Southern.
Men's Wrestling
  • The nation's 22nd-ranked Mavericks wrapped up the regular season in Gunnison.
  • They took on Western Colorado in a dual on Friday night, falling 26-18 in a dual against the Mountaineers.
  • The Mavs then had three champions and 14 placers at Sunday's Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open.
  • In Friday's dual, AJ Hague, Owen Cline, Noah O'Dougherty and Gabriel Carranza picked up wins.  Hague's was by fall while Cline beat 11th ranked Vincent Cabral, 11-4.
  • Juan Garcia (149), Gunner Neal (174) and Logan Noble (197) all won their respective weight classes in Sunday's tournament, designed for reserves and redshirts from around the region.
  • Mavs are tied for 22nd in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association's Rankings, which were released on Jan. 22.
  • The Mavs also have a pair of nationally-ranked individuals in Owen Cline, ranked seventh at 157 pounds, and Gabriel Carranza, tabbed eighth at 197 pounds.
  • CMU will next compete at the Feb. 28 NCAA Division II Super Region VI Championships in Golden, Colorado.
Men's Tennis Women's Tennis
  • The Maverick women also went 1-2 over the weekend in Kearney, Nebraska.
  • They dominated Hastings, 7-0 and dropped 5-2 decisions to Northwest Missouri State and Nebraska-Kearney
  • Delia Maier went 4-0 on Friday in the split against Hastings and Northwest Missouri State, winning both of her singles matches while teaming with Catalina Ballon for No. 2 doubles wins in both duals on Friday.
  • Maier was also 3-0 in singles throughout the weekend.
  • She and Valentina Gonzalez then won singles matches on Saturday against Nebraska-Kearney.
  • Gonzalez also teamed with Sophie Hartman for a doubles win against the Lopers.
  • Devin Rodriguez, ranked 35th nationally, went 2-1 in the top singles flight over the weekend and split a pair of matches against opponents ranked in the ITA's Central Regional Rankings.
  • After playing indoors over the past two weeks, the Mavs, who are now 3-5 overall and 2-2 against Division II opposition, will head outside in the metropolitan Phoenix area this weekend.
  • They will take on Western New Mexico in a key NCAA Division II South Central Region match-up in Glendale on Friday before facing NAIA Ottawa (Ariz.) that evening in Surprise.
  • They will also take on Arizona Christian on Saturday in Glendale.   
Beach Volleyball
  • The Mavericks will begin their 2026 season, their 11th in program history, this weekend playing four matches against NCAA Division I foes at Grand Canyon University's Canyon Classic in Phoenix.
  • The Mavs will take on the host Lopes and Arizona on Friday before playing Arizona State and UC Davis on Saturday.
  • The Mavs are coming off a 2025 season that saw them win a program-record 21 duals (21-11).
  • The Mavs return four of their eight players who were amongst the team's No. 1-4 pairs last week.
  • Included in that group is Ellie Ask and Gracyn Spresser, who went 16-14 as a duo in the top flight last year.
  • Ania Swartzendruber, who went 21-9 with her now graduated partner (Barett Nolan) on Court 3 also returns.
  • Jessica Passi, who was 19-11 with Taylor Scherff last year on Court 4, also returns.
  • The Mavs have six new freshman and have also added a pair of transfers in Ewelina Gacek and Mikala Henderson who have both played indoor volleyball at the NCAA Division I level.
