KEARNEY, Neb.— Senior
William Leschig won his No. 3 singles match after teaming with
Henry Scheck for a top flight doubles win to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team on Saturday in a dual at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
The Lopers won the other matches and the dual inside the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center, 6-1. They are now 4-2 on the season while the Mavs fell to 1-4.
Leschig and Scheck were 7-6 winners over UNK's Andy Brisdon and Ivan Melnik, ranked fourth in the ITA's Central Regional Rankings. The Maverick duo is ranked fifth in the West Region.
Leschig then won his singles match over Yarona Morule, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
The Lopers were able to win the other five, but needed tiebreakers in the second set of all three of bottom half matches.
The Mavericks will continue their season next weekend, heading outside in warmer weather in the Phoenix metropolitan area. They will play Western New Mexico in a key NCAA Division II South Central regional matchup on Friday (Feb. 20) in Glendale.
