Carson Dickey scored five of her career-high matching six goals in the opening half as the Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team had an 8-7 halftime lead before the nation's 11
th-ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights went on a 6-goal run in the third and into the fourth quarter to claim a 15-9 win over the Mavericks on Sunday afternoon.
The game wrapped up a 3-game swing through Florida for the Mavs. All three contests were against nationally-ranked foes.
Lynn improved to 1-1 after falling by three goals (13-10) at No. 3 Florida Southern in their season-opener on Friday night in Lakeland.
The Fighting Knights took a 3-0 lead in the first 3:17 of the game and led 5-1 before
Kaylee Kittle scored twice around Dickey's first goal to help the Mavs pull within 5-4 after the opening stanza.
Lynn then scored twice in the opening three minutes of the second quarter before Dickey scored three straight goals in a span of just 2:33 to the game.
Cameron Flynn assisted on two of those goals.
Dickey then scored a woman-up goal with 17 seconds remaining in the half to give the Mavs their first and only lead of the game.
However, the Golden Knights scored three times in the first 5:36 of the third quarter and added three more goals to take a 13-8 lead before Dickey partially answered with CMU's final goal, which came with 9:14 remaining.
The Mavs were guilty of 25 turnovers and were out-shot, 33-14.
Heather Hawkins made eight saves in net while
Avery Irlbeck registered five draw controls.
Freshman
Tessa Pearson also added a goal and an assist on the offensive end.
Kittle scored nine goals throughout the trip, including a four-goal effort at No. 10 Saint Leo on Tuesday and a hat-trick at No. 19 Rollins on Friday.
The Mavs will play their next three and four out of their next five games at home, starting next Sunday against Missouri Western State, which will take on Westminster in a neutral-site contest at CMU's Community Hospital Unity Field on Friday (Feb. 20).
