ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Autumn McQuitty and
Lauren Hodges both ran career-best mile times while Colorado Mesa University's men's 4x400-meter relay team also posted a mark inside the top five of program history, highlights of the Mavs' Saturday performances at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational indoor track & field meet here at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
McQuitty finished third out of 42 total mile runners in four heats with a time of five minutes, 8.22 seconds and moved into a tie for fourth in Maverick history. The effort, run at altitude, was more than two seconds faster than her former career-best of 5:10.27 run in Topeka, Kansas a year ago.
Running in the ensuing heat, Hodges then recorded a time of 5:12.69 to move into the No. 6 spot of program history.
Maya Kobylanski (5:17.93) and
Daisy Lalonde (5:20.70) also finished in the top half of the field placing 16
th and 18
th, respectively. Lalonde was running the event for the first time as a Maverick while Kobylanski raced it for the second straight week.
The relay quartet of
Amaris Mora,
Aidan Brownell,
Alonzo Leiba and
Jordan Fraser combined for a time of 3:20.37 to take over the No. 5 spot in program history.
Earlier in the day,
Teo Casados set a fast time of 6.79 seconds in the invitational section of the 60-meter dash, his second best of the campaign after opening it up in December with a school-record time of 6.70.
Joseph Randolph also ran in the unseeded section, posting a time of 6.98 seconds.
Hannah Schissler also ran in the women's half of the discipline, finishing in 7.78 seconds.
Dominick Muller rounded out the Mavs' efforts, recording to a time of 4:35.76 in his first collegiate effort of that distance.
The Mavericks also had distance runners in action at the
GVSU Big Meet in Michigan and the
Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open in Colorado Springs on Saturday.
