COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Clayton Jewell was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's men's basketball Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon as released by conference officials.
This comes as the second time this season that he has earned this honor after previously being recognized in week nine on Jan. 19.
Jewell earns this award after having a dominant week on the hardwood in which he helped CMU move into a tie for first place in the RMAC and beat both opponents that came to Brownson Arena.
Over the course of the two games Jewell totaled 29 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, five blocks and two steals.
In his defensive efforts he had both a block and steal with five rebounds in the win over Fort Lewis on Thursday before erupting for a 22-point, 12 rebound double-double against New Mexico Highlands. He added a staggering four blocks in that game with one steal as well.
Currently Jewell ranks fourth in the conference in blocks and fifth in rebounds.
Tristan Hurdle from Black Hills State joins Jewell as he named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
