Women's Soccer
  • The Mavs, ranked 22nd in the national preseason poll, opened the season in fine form, recording a pair of 4-0 wins over Lone Star Conference and South Central Regional opponents.
  • Junior goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek became the Mavs' all-time leader for career shutouts on Thursday night against St. Edward's and then added her 22nd shutout on Saturday as she broke the tie with CMU Hall of Honor inductee Lindsay Blose (Icenogle), who had 20 career shutouts.
  • Fruita native Kiley Wells scored two first half goals in Thursday night's win over St. Edward's and added the game-winner in the first half of Saturday's win over St. Mary's.
  • Sarah Dunn also scored twice against St. Edward's.
  • Freshman Brooklyn Baird then tallied her first two career goals on Saturday against St. Mary's.
  • Another freshman in Ellie Duncan also scored her first career goal in that game.
  • The Mavericks will remain at home this week to face Northwest Nazarene on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before heading off to Laramie, Wyoming to face Division I Wyoming on Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • CMU will also host a neutral-site match-up between Western Colorado and Northwest Nazarene at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
  • A new national poll is slated for release on Tuesday.
Triathlon
  • The Mavs will host a major event this week in conjunction with the Grand Junction Sports Commission. | EVENT WEBSITE
  • CMU will host seven other squads, including six NCAA Division I institutions, at the Desert's Edge Collegiate Cup on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Highline Lake State Park in Loma.
  • The event will mark the first time that CMU will compete against other NCAA institutions in a home meet.
  • Defending national champion Arizona and fellow co-No. 1 preseason poll Arizona State are slated to be in the field along with No. 4 TCU, No. 5 Denver and No. 8 South Dakota.
  • The Mavs are ranked third in the Division II Preseason Rankings ahead of No. 7 Black Hills State, which will also be in Sunday's field.
  • Sunday's sprint race will feature a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5K run in and around the park and neighboring county roads. | COURSE MAPS
Football
  • The Mavs, now 1-1, won their home-opener, 28-7 over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday night.
  • The Mavs scored 28 unanswered points, tying the game just over five minutes into the second half before scoring all 21 second half points.
  • Aiden Taylor ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns (30, 11) on 20 carries.
  • He was one of four rushers, who combined for 242 ground yards.
  • The Mavs averaged 7.7 yards per play, accounting for 379 yards of total offense.
  • George Soppe finished with a career-high 14 tackles, including two for losses, while adding a quarterback hurry.
  • The Mavericks held the Greyhounds to just 75 passing and 269 total yards.
  • CMU has a bye this week before starting RMAC play on Sept. 20 with the Parents' Weekend game against CSU Pueblo at 2 p.m.
Volleyball
  • The Mavericks, ranked 23rd in the national preseason poll, went 3-1 on the opening weekend of the season to begin the Austin Albers coaching era at Angelo State's Kathleen Brasfield Invitational.
  • The Mavericks swept both Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Nazarene on Friday and then recorded another 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon before taking No. 2 Angelo State to five sets.
  • Sadie Scoville, Henley Madsen and Allison Waller were all named to the all-tournament team.
  • Waller became just the tenth Maverick to eclipse the 1,000 career dig milestone in the rally-scoring era (2001-Present), recording 55 digs over the weekend to finish it with 1,001.  She had 19 in the Angelo State match.
  • Scoville finished with 35 kills and nine service aces and had an 11-kill, 12-dig double-double against Angelo State.
  • Madsen had 33 kills and hit .308 throughout the weekend from her opposition position.
  • The Mavericks will continue non-conference and tournament play this weekend heading to Los Angeles for the Cal State LA Tournament.  They will play Cal Poly Pomona, ranked 11th in the preseason poll as well as the host Golden Eagles and Simon Fraser, both of whom were receiving votes in the poll.
  • A new national poll is slated for release on Monday afternoon.

  • The Mavericks will begin the exhibition season next Friday (Sept. 19), when they host their annual Intrasquad Meet.
  • The Mavs will also hold an Alumni Meet a week later on Sept. 26 before hosting the Intermountain Shootout on Oct. 3-4 to officially begin the season.
