Mavs top RMAC Golf Poll

Cavarno named to Preseason All-RMAC team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After a school-record setting season in 2024-25, the Colorado Mesa University men's golf team has been picked first in the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks received three first place votes and were named second on the other three possible ballots to top the poll with 33 points.

The RMAC's seven head coaches ranked their opposition 1-6 without voting for their own squad.  First place votes were worth six points while second place votes were worth five.

Additionally, Maverick senior Timmy Cavarno was named to the Preseason All-RMAC team after earning second team all-conference honors a year ago.  The Redlands, California native posted a 71.85 scoring average in 2024-25 and recorded a pair of top-5 and four top-10 finishes.

In the process, Cavarno helped the Mavs smash a program record with a 286.03 team scoring average as CMU took third at the RMAC Championships while qualifying for the NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regional Championships as a team for the sixth straight year.

Head Coach Scott Sullivan returns seven overall golfers from last year's team, including five of the Mavs' top six with Cavarno and RMAC Freshman of the Year Leo Lavalle helping to highlight the list.

In the team poll, the Mavs finished three points ahead of the Colorado School of Mines and CSU Pueblo in the poll after both of those teams received 30 points and two first place votes apiece.

Fort Lewis was picked fourth in the poll with 18 points finishing head of Westminster (17), Colorado Christian (12) and South Dakota Mines (7).

Colorado Christian took second at last year's national championships after winning the 2024 national title but lost four regular starters and their head coach in Mark Hull, who retired after claiming National Coach of the Year honors.  The Cougars also repeated as RMAC Champions last year.

However, Peyton Jones looks to lead the new-look Cougars and returns as one of only two returning First Team All-RMAC selections alongside CSU Pueblo junior Marius Dosiere.

Cavarno is one of six returning Second Team All-RMAC picks on this year's 8-man preseason all-conference team, which was selected from returning players based on their final national ranking powered by Clippd.

The Mavericks will begin their fall season at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational in Sheridan, Wyoming on Sept. 15-16.
