GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— After helping the Colorado Mesa University men's golf team to their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team title this spring, Luke Wagstaff claimed a dominant 12-shot win at the Colorado West Amateur, played over the weekend at Bookcliff Country Club.
 
The McKinney, Texas native posted rounds of 64, 64 and 67 to finish the 54-hole weekend event contested on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 18-under par and 12 shots ahead of Maverick teammate Dylan Everett, who took second at -6.
 
Wagstaff, who has completed his junior season with the Mavs, is the third straight Maverick golfer to win the tournament, which was held for the 65^th time.  Now Maverick assistant coach and aspiring professional Cole Beyer claimed victory in 2024 before Timmy Cavarno won last year.
