GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University men's golf alums Yael Chahin and
Cole Beyer both earned full member status on the Mexican Professional Tour (Gira Profesional Mexicana) recently emerging from the tour's Q-School tournament in Cundinamarca, Colombia, just outside that nation's capital of Bogota.
Both former Mavericks were amongst the 14 players to earn full membership cards for the upcoming 2025-26 season out of that tournament, held July 27-31 at the Rincon de Cajica Club. Seven others also earned conditional cards.
Chahin, a native of Queretaro, was one of four Mexicans to earn his full and placed seventh in the tournament with a 3-round score of 220 (+4). Beyer finished in a 3-way tie for eighth at 221 (+5) as one of two Americans to earn full status.
Beyer, who hails from Woodburn, Oregon, recently completed his CMU collegiate career becoming just the second Maverick in program history to earn PING All-America honors after smashing the program single-season record with a 69.45 scoring average during his 2024-25 senior season. He won a program-record four tournaments and had seven top-5 finishes throughout the campaign. He also set the Mavs' career scoring record of 72.62 and earned three All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference plaudits.
Chahin, completed his Maverick career a year prior in 2024, and finished with a 73.75 scoring average throughout his 2-time All-RMAC career, the sixth best average in CMU history. He was a member of the Mavs' NCAA Regional Tournament team in all four seasons of his 2020-24 career and helped CMU qualify for the NCAA National Tournament in his 2021-22 sophomore campaign.
"The Mexican Professional Tour continues to establish itself as one of the most important platforms for the development of Latin America golf and this qualifying tournament in Colombia reaffirms its international character and its commitment to the growth of the sport in the region," it was stated on the Tour's website and Q-School recap.
Forty four players from throughout the Americas as well as Australia and Switzerland competed in the event, one of three qualifying school events that granted access to the GPM, which is the only professional tour in Mexico to offer Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
