General
- Eight different Maverick squads are ranked amongst the top 25 in their respective coaching organization's national polls.
- Six are in the top ten while three are in the top five.
- The Mavericks have already won a conference-leading four RMAC titles (Women's Soccer, Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving, Women's Basketball) this academic year.
- CMU is also the only RMAC institution with both basketball teams included in the initial South Central Regional Rankings.
- Eleven different Maverick teams will be in action this week.
- Five different Maverick teams will play at home this Saturday, giving Maverick fans a smorgasbord of options and the ability to bounce around to four different venues.
- Saturday will mark the only home events of the season for the Maverick men's tennis team.
Women's Basketball
- The Mavericks, ranked fourth in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll (Feb. 17), extended their winning streak to 25 games with wins blowout wins over Westminster and Western Colorado.
- The 25-game winning streak matches the school-record from the 2013-14 season.
- The Mavs now have the longest winning streak in Division II after Minnesota State lost by 21 points on Saturday at Concordia St.-Paul, ending Minnesota State's 27-game winning streak.
- The winning streak is the third longest in the NCAA trailing Division III NYU (86) and Division I UConn (45).
- The Mavs are now 28-1 overall and 18-0 in the RMAC.
- Their 28-1 record is the best in Division II this season.
- They also clinched the RMAC title last week, their 13th in program history.
- The title is their third in a row and the eighth under 14th year Head Coach Taylor Wagner.
- On Tuesday in Salt Lake City, the Mavericks won by 43 points (90-47) over Westminster to clinch at least share of the RMAC title and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming RMAC Tournament.
- The Mavs then sealed up the outright RMAC title on Thursday night when Adams State lost to Black Hills State.
- The Mavs then claimed a 32-point win (73-41) on Senior Day on Saturday over Western Colorado.
- Both CMU and WCU were amongst the four RMAC teams in the alphabetized list of the top ten teams in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings, released for the first time last week.
- A new set of the top 10 will be released in ranked order on Wednesday and will likely see the Mavs ranked second or third.
- Mason Rowland eclipsed the 1,000 career point milestone in Saturday's win and now has 1,010. She had 21 points in that game after also scoring 21 against Westminster.
- The Mavs outscored the Mountaineers 49-22 in the second half.
- The Mavs recognized four players in a post-game Senior Day ceremony, including Olivia Reed Thyne and Mykaela Moore.
- Reed Thyne had 22 points and 16 rebounds to record her 15th double-double of the season and her 58th of her career while Moore scored 17 points while grabbing six rebounds.
- The Mavs also recognized fourth-year redshirt juniors Macy Larsen and Kailey Page.
- Rowland had 21 points in Tuesday's road win at Westminster while Reed Thyne finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 7-for-8 the field in just 23 minutes of action.
- They are now 12-0 at home this season and have won 35 consecutive RMAC games over the past two seasons.
- The Mavs' No. 4 national ranking is their best since the end of the 2013-14 season, when they were ranked as high as second.
- The Mavs can reach the 30-win mark for the third time in program history this weekend if they are able to sweep a trip to South Dakota.
- The Mavs play at South Dakota Mines in Rapid City on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Spearfish to play Black Hills State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
- South Dakota Mines is 9-17 overall and 7-11 in RMAC play and will need to go 2-0 this weekend to have a chance at qualifying for the RMAC Tournament.
- Black Hills State is 16-9 overall and tied for third in the RMAC standings at 13-5 and in a dog-fight to host a RMAC Tournament quarterfinal next Tuesday.
- The Mavericks are assured of that and will take on the No. 8 seed next Tuesday (Mar. 3).
- A win in that game would also guarantee the Mavs at hosting the RMAC Tournament semifinals and finals for the second straight year on Mar. 6-7.
- The Mavs rank third in the nation for scoring defense (50.5) and scoring margin (+23.9) and rank fourth for field goal percentage defense (32.7)
- Reed Thyne is now averaging 20.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game and ranks third in the country for total rebounds (326) and sixth for points (599).
- Reed Thyne now stands second in Colorado collegiate history (all divisions) for career rebounds (1,300) and third for points (2,195).
Men's Basketball
- The Mavericks (18-8, 14-4 RMAC) split two games last week.
- They saw a 7-game winning streak snapped at Westminster last Tuesday by a 73-68 score.
- Senior Ty Allred, a native of Mona, Utah, scored 28 points in that game and surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone in his home state.
- The Mavs then bounced back with a 100-90 win over Western Colorado on Saturday afternoon.
- That win clinched a top four finish in the RMAC and will guarantee the Mavs will host a RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, Mar. 3.
- CMU is now 11-1 at home this season and have won eight out of nine games. They are 13-3 in 2026.
- The Mavs are under consideration for a NCAA Tournament spot after appearing in the top 10 of the South Central Regional Rankings, which were released for the first time in alphabetical order last Wednesday. A ranked top 10 will be released on Wednesday.
- Allred, who now has 1,040 career points, was recognized before the game as the team's lone senior.
- He had 26 points on 9-for-16 shooting and hit three of five 3-pointers in the Mavs' win.
- CMU has now reached the 100-point mark in two of their last four games after going nearly two seasons without reaching triple figures.
- The Mavs had five players in double figures on Saturday as Harvey White scored 22 points while recording a new career-high nine assists. He was 9-for-11 from the field.
- Clayton Jewell also added 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
- The Mavs shot 60.3 percent (38-63) from the field and had 25 assists.
- Heading into the final weekend of regular season play, the Mavericks are tied for second in the RMAC standings but still have control of their own destiny to win at a least a share of the RMAC title.
- Black Hills State (22-4 overall) was ranked 17th in last week's NABC Division II poll and leads the league at 15-3 but most play the Mavs on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Spearfish, South Dakota.
- The Mavs will play at South Dakota Mines (9-17, 6-12 RMAC), which has already been eliminated from conference tournament contention on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
- Fort Lewis is also tied with the Mavs for second in the RMAC standings at 14-4 and plays at CSU Pueblo and Christian on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
- Allred is second in the RMAC for scoring (18.9 ppg) and third for rebounding (7.5 rpg). He and Clayton Jewell also rank in the RMAC's top five for blocked shots as both are averaging 1.2 per game.
- Allred was also named to the Top 50 of the Bevo Francis Award Watch List last week, an honor given to the best small college men's basketball player in the country. He was one of two RMAC players named to the list.
- Allred was also named as the RMAC's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, his fifth RMAC weekly award of the season.
- The Mavericks rank second in the RMAC as a team with their .491 field goal percentage and lead the conference in 3-point shooting percentage at .395.
- The Mavs lead Division II with their .817 free throw percentage.
Baseball
- The Mavs, ranked 9th in last week's NCWBA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Division II Poll, swept MSU Billings in a Thursday-Sunday 4-game series.
- The Mavs, 10-2 overall, have won nine straight games and are 8-0 at home.
- The series sweep of the Yellow Jackets was the Mavs first since 2019. The teams have met every year since then, excluding 2020.
- The Mavs will host Augustana this weekend (Thursday-Saturday) as the Mavs continue a 16-game home stand.
- The Vikings are ranked 14th in last week's NCWBA Poll and will come to Grand Junction with an 8-0 record after being off last weekend. They have series sweeps over Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth.
- The Mavs have a regional-leading .679 strength of schedule, 85 points higher than any other team in the South Central Region according to Inkblot Sports.
- In Thursday's 4-1 win, Kolby Felix went 3-for-5 with a double and RBI single from the lead-off spot while four pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts while giving up just one run.
- Justin Schramm recorded the win and improved to 2-0 throwing 3 1/3 innings of relief after Liam Hohenstein struck out seven in his 4-inning start.
- The Mavericks then swept Saturday's doubleheader 7-2 and 14-3 after the teams postponed Friday's scheduled doubleheader due to snow.
- Joey Blank had five RBIs throughout the doubleheader as the Mavs pounded out 24 hits.
- The 14 runs in the second game were a season-high.
- Brooks Bachman then went 3-for-5 while Noah Neufeld went 3-for-3 with a walk and a double in Sunday's 7-1 win.
- Jackson Eisenhauer recorded the pitching win after giving up just two hits while striking out six in five shutout innings.
- This weekend's series will begin on Thursday with a single 9-inning game on Thursday.
- The teams will play a doubleheader (9/7 inning format) on Friday at Noon before wrapping up the series with a single 9-inning game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Softball
- The Mavs, 4-8 overall, won three of four games in their first RMAC series over the weekend against Regis in Denver.
- The Mavs swept Saturday's doubleheader, 3-2 and 11-7.
- The Mavs trailed 2-1 through six innings of the first game before taking advantage of a key Ranger error to score two runs and eventually win the game.
- The Mavs then recorded a season-high 15 hits and a season-high 11 runs in the Game 2 slugfest.
- On Sunday, the Mavs dropped Game 3 of the series, 4-1 but responded for a 4-3 extra-inning win (8 innings) in the final game of the weekend to claim the series win.
- Down to their final strike in the top of the seventh, Brynn Escobar hit a game-tying 2-run homer to tie the game three.
- Khloe Kubitschek then delivered an inside the park home run in the eighth to propel the Mavs to victory.
- She also hit a traditional home run in the Game 2 scoring barrage and finished the weekend with a team-leading four RBIs.
- Cailynn Parsons hit .455 (5-11) with two doubles throughout the weekend.
- Escobar also had five hits and hit .357 (5-14).
- Sophia Tassinari went 2-1 with a 0.86 ERA while appearing in all four games and throwing 16.1 innings. She completed both of her starts.
- Local product Marissa Nehm picked up the Game 3 win.
- The Mavs will play their first home games of the season this weekend when they host MSU Denver in a 4-game Saturday/Sunday series.
- Saturday's doubleheader will begin at Noon while Sunday's will be at 11 a.m.
- The Roadrunners are currently 7-3 overall and 2-0 in RMAC playing heading into a Monday doubleheader against Fort Lewis in Denver. They have won six straight.

Women's Lacrosse
- The Mavs played their home-opener on Sunday, falling 9-7 to Missouri Western State.
- The Mavs are now 0-4 on the season.
- The Mavs fought back from an early 3-0 deficit and were tied with Griffons at 4 at the half.
- They then took a 6-5 lead in the third quarter before the Griffons scored four of the game's final five goals to take the win.
- Carson Dickey recorded her second straight hat-trick with three goals in Sunday's game and now leads the RMAC with ten goals so far this season.
- Sophie Astone had three caused turnovers and three ground balls while Sadie Chappuis had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Kenzie Streby also scored two goals.
- The Mavs will play host to another neutral-site game between Fort Lewis and Missouri Western State on Tuesday at noon.
- The Mavs then continue a 3-game home-stand on Saturday at Noon against Florida Tech, ranked 16th in this week's IWLCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
- That game with the Panthers will be their fourth against nationally-ranked teams from the Sunshine State.
- They will also take on Northern Michigan next Monday (Mar. 2) at 4 p.m.
Women's Wrestling
- The Mavericks qualified four wrestlers for the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships on Sunday as Mia Zuniga (103), Adriana Gomez (110), Lorianna Piestewa (124) and Jayleen Sekona (207) all took second place in at the Region VI Championships in St. Charles, Missouri.
- The Mavericks had eight overall placers and took third in the team standings out of 15 teams with 113 team points.
- Two other Mavericks in Hania Halverson (131) and Gretchen Donally (145) both finished fourth and just one win shy of a national tournament bid.
- Sophia Cornish finished fifth at 117 pounds while Maggie Smith finished sixth at 180 pounds.
- Sekona now has 99 career wins and is just one away from becoming the first Maverick woman to ever reach 100. She is looking to become a 4-time all-American, a feat accomplished by just two previous Mavericks (Marissa Gallegos, Jennesis Martinez).
- Gomez co-leads the team 29 wins and is 29-11 while Donally finishes her season with a 29-12 record.
- Gomez and Sekona, who is 27-9, could set the Mavs' single-season record, which currently stands at 31 (Claire DiCugno, 2021-22)
- The Mavericks advanced all ten of their wrestlers to Day 2 of the tournament on Sunday and had five reach the semifinals.
- The Mavs entered the regional ranked eighth as a team in the NWCA's NCAA Coaches' Rankings as a team and had five individually ranked wrestlers.
- That list includes Mia Zuniga (3rd, 103 lbs.), Sophia Cornish (8th, 117), Lorianna Piestewa (5th, 124) Sophia Cornish (10th, 117), Gretchen Donally (10th, 145) and Jayleen Sekona (7th, 207).
- The NCAA Championships are Mar. 6-7 in Coralville, Iowa, just outside Iowa City.
Men's Wrestling
- The Mavericks will head to Saturday's NCAA Super Region VI Championships in Golden.
- Colorado School of Mines in hosting the event in Lockridge Arena, beginning at 10 a.m.
- The top three wrestlers in each of the ten weight classes will advance to the Mar. 13-14 NCAA Division II Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
- There are 13 teams in the regional tournament field.
- The Mavs moved up a spot to 21st in the latest NWCA NCAA Division II Rankings, released on Thursday.
- The Mavs now have three ranked wrestlers in Owen Cline, Gabriel Carranza and Tyler Doyle. Cline remained in the No. 7 spot at 157 pounds while Carranza moved up a spot at 197 pounds.
- Doyle is ranked 14th at 285 pounds and will pull his planned redshirt to compete in Saturday's tournament following an injury to Ruben Samuelson in CMU's final dual at Western Colorado.
- He is a returning all-American (7th) and has enjoyed a strong 12-2 season while winning two of the three open tournaments he has competed in.
- Cline is also a returning all-American (4th) while Carranza will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the third straight year.

Swimming & Diving
- The Mavericks hosted the CMU Last Chance Meet on Saturday morning with swimmers from Colorado School of Mines, Western Colorado and national powerhouse Indianapolis joining the Mavs in efforts to secure a NCAA Championship bid.
- Asa Keim, who has also been competing in the multi events for the Maverick indoor track & field team this winter, secured NCAA qualifying scores in both diving disciplines to become the 13th Maverick diver (7 men, 6 women) to qualify for next month's NCAA Division II Pre-Championship Qualification meet on Tuesday, Mar. 10.
- In swimming, senior Tori Bartusiak set a pair of NCAA "B" cut times in the 100 Fly and 50 Free in her final home meet to add those events to her repertoire for the National Championships.
- Eva Lehmkuhler (200 Fly), Sydnee O'Neil (200 Fly), Linnea Sjöberg (200 Free), Conrad Fawcett (500 Free) and Braden Felio (100 Free) also upped their chances for NCAA selection with season-best NCAA "B" cut times.
- The official NCAA Qualifications will come out on Wednesday afternoon.
- The Mavericks continue to sit third (women's) and fourth (men's), in the February edition of the CSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 Dual Meet Poll.
- They swept the RMAC Championships for the eighth straight year in dominating fashion the week prior.
Men's Lacrosse
- The Maverick men, who were off last week, moved up to tenth in this week's USILA Division II Coaches Poll, released on Monday.
- The Mavs are 2-0 overall and 1-0 in RMAC play.
- They will also be off this week before resuming their season on Thursday, Mar. 5, when they will take on Florida Southern in their home-opener.
