DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep to open the conference portion of their schedule this afternoon as they took down Regis University at the Regis Softball Field.

Below is a short recap of each game.
GAME 1 (CMU 3, REGIS 2):
Ending up on the right side of a pitching duel, the Mavs won the opening game of day after rallying in the top of the seventh inning on a crucial defensive miscue.
Prior to the seventh inning drama, the Rangers led two times in the game with them scoring once in both the second and fifth innings.
They got their first run and led in the second inning thanks to a walk and an error.
The Mavs tied it up in the fourth though as Ava Stephens drove in Makayla Westmoreland on a single to left field.
The Rangers responded with a single and double to bring another run in during the fifth inning as they now led once again, 2-1.
The sixth inning featured scoreless frames from both squads before Colorado Mesa was able to change the game completely in the top of the seventh.
Allison Lindsay and Cailynn Parsons both reached base to start the inning before a bunt allowed them to get to second and third. A Khloe Kubitschek ball was hit to centerfield to follow but a defensive error by their player allowed both runners to score giving CMU the new, 3-2 lead.
Two more players reached base to follow but no more offense was needed as the Mavs concluded the comeback win in the bottom of the seventh in five batters.
Both pitchers in the game went seven innings for their respective squads with Sophia Tassinari earning her second win of the season. Over the complete game effort she allowed just seven hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three.
Brynn Escobar and Cailynn Parsons paced the Mavs with each of them going 2-3.
GAME 2 (CMU 11, REGIS 7):
Playing to a slugfest opposite of game one, the Mavs totaled their season-high in runs in game two of the day while recording 15 hits.
The Mavs scored runs in five of the seven innings of the game while totaling five of them through the first three innings.
Molli Magaña had a two-run homerun in the first inning to open the game as Colorado Mesa never trailed throughout the contest.
Paige Pierce and TK Landes added two more runs in the second inning on a pair of hits with Magaña then adding another run in the third inning on a double play.
The Rangers managed to get back three runs in the third inning but were matched by the CMU offense soon after as they put up a three-spot as well in the top of the fifth.
