Asa Keim joined the list of Colorado Mesa University divers to earn a trip to next month's NCAA Division II Pre-Championship Qualification meet while
Tori Bartusiak added a pair of events to her potential national championship swimming repertoire, highlights of the Mavericks' efforts at Saturday morning's CMU Last Chance swimming & diving meet at the El Pomar Natatorium.
Keim, who needed a NCAA qualification score from a second meet to join a dozen of previous qualified Maverick divers, delivered on both the 1 and 3-meter boards in the diving session, which preceded three mini-sessions of swimming action.
He scored 314.48 points over six dives off the1-meter board finishing third in an all-Maverick field. That mark was nearly 30 points higher than the NCAA qualification standard of 285 points. Keim, who has been splitting time between the CMU diving squad and the Mavs' indoor track & field team this winter, then scored 316.58 points on the 3-meter board, again surpassing the NCAA standard of 295 points.
David Roethlisberger, who shared Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Diver of the Meet honors after winning the 3-meter conference title last week, won both of Saturday's events with scores of 325.20 points (3m) and 319.80 (1m).
Kenya Meyer won the women's 3-meter diving event with 313.95 points while
Talia Datilio scored 294.15 on the 1-meter to claim the day's victory.
Bartusiak, a Highlands Ranch, Colorado native, was already secured of NCAA Championship qualification in the 200-yard butterfly but added an NCAA "B" cut and personal-best time of 55.79 seconds (55.60-altitude adjusted) in the 100 Fly, which will also enable her to compete in that event at next month's national championships in Evansville, Indiana.
Her converted time ranks her fourth in CMU history.
Bartusiak then recorded another career-best of 23.56 seconds in a 50 free time trial at the end of the meet to move in to the No. 9 spot of program history.
That came in her last career race in the El Pomar Natatorium.
Freshman
Eva Lehmkuhler also slightly increased her chance for national selection in the 200 fly, posting a time of 2:04.23 (2:03.03-converted) after coming into the weekend ranked 19
th in the nation at 2:03.10. She now ranks seventh in program history for that event.
Teammate
Sydnee O'Neil also set a NCAA "B" cut time of 2:04.44 (2:03.24-convered) to move up at least two spots on the national list.
Elsewhere, Swedish freshman
Linnea Sjöberg shaved a hundredth of a second off her season-best in the 200 free, tying
Kendyll Wilkinson with a time of 1:51.83 (1:50.63-converted).
Conrad Fawcett also slightly improved his chances for an NCAA invitation, setting an improved career-best and NCAA "B" cut time of 4:31.83 (4:26.83-converted) in the 500 free.
Sophomore
Braden Felio also upped his chances in the 100 free, posting a time of 44.11 seconds (44.01-converted) to move up to sixth in CMU history for that discipline.
NCAA Championship selections will be announced on Wednesday in advance of the Mar. 10-14 national meet.
