Hansson, Meyer, Wender earn RMAC's top awards

Sixteen Mav women combine for 48 All-RMAC honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University seniors Olivia Hansson and Kenya Meyer were named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Year while the Mavericks' Mickey Wender was tabbed as the conference's coach of the year, RMAC officials announced on Wednesday.

Wender was also named as the RMAC Men's Coach of the Year as the Mavs swept all four of the conference's major awards.

All of the awards were decided by a vote of the conference's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own athletes or themselves.

The Mavericks also had 16 women's athletes earn a combined 48 All-RMAC honors, which are given to the top four finishers in each event.  First team honors are given to the first and second place finishers while second team accolades go to the third and fourth place finishers.

Wender has now won six RMAC Coach of the Year honors, including three women's accolades  He was also the 2024 NCAA Division II National Women's Coach of the Year.

In his seventh season with the Mavs, Wender guided the Mavericks to an eighth straight RMAC title sweep.  He and his staff also guided the Maverick women to a third place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships, their fourth consecutive trophy-winning top four finish at the national meet.

The Maverick women won 15 of the 21 events at the RMAC Championships and then recorded 15 podium finishes at the national meet.

The Mavs also won 33 of the possible 63 RMAC Championship medals with the rest of the conference combining for 30, three fewer than the Mavs.

Hansson, a native of Kivik, Sweden, was a part of four of those RMAC event wins and NCAA podium finishes.  She finished third in both the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events at the national championships and placed eighth in the 1000 free.  She also anchored the Mavs to a second place finish in the 800 freestyle relay and earned six total CSCAA (College Swimming & Coaches Association of American) All-America honors to raise her career total to 16.  Four of this year's six and 12 of her career honors were first team accolades, given to the top eight finishers.

At this year's RMAC Championships, Hansson swept the RMAC titles in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 yard freestyles and helped the Mavs set an RMAC Championship record time of 7:18.27 in the 800 free relay.

In her career, Hansson won ten RMAC titles and garnered 18 All-RMAC certificates, including 16 first team honors.

She also will depart CMU as the program's record-holder in the three aforementioned distance freestyle events and the 800 free relay.

Meyer, who hails from Bozeman, Montana will also depart as CMU's and the RMAC's top women's diver of all-time.

In 2025-26, she took second at the NCAA Division II National Championships the 1-meter event and was fourth in the 3-meter discipline.  She also successfully defended her RMAC title in both events.

Throughout her career, Meyer won six RMAC titles and claimed the maximum possible eight First Team All-RMAC diving honors in her 4-year stint with the Mavs.  She was named as the RMAC Championship Diver of the Meet in all four years, sharing the honor with teammates as a freshman and sophomore before winning that honor outright in the last two seasons.

She also set RMAC Championship records in both events, breaking the 1-meter record with a score of 520.95 points this year after establishing the 3-meter record of 541.70 points last year.

She swept both titles in 2025 and 2026 after winning the 3-meter title in 2023 and the 1-meter in 2024.
