SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Five different double-digit scorers helped lead the No. 4 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team to a 90-47 win over the Westminster Griffins on Tuesday (Feb. 17) evening in Behnken Field House.
With the win, the Mavericks (27-1, 17-0 RMAC) secured a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament in two weeks. The Mavericks own the head-to-head tiebreaker over second place Adams State.
It is the Mavericks third straight regular season title and 13
th overall title for Colorado Mesa. The title is the eighth under current head coach
Taylor Wagner.
The Mavericks won three of the four quarters including a fast start with a 30-9 first quarter lead. They had a 16-4 advantage on points in the paint leading to a 21-point advantage after
Mason Rowland buried a three-pointer with 48 seconds left in the frame.
Colorado Mesa never trailed in the game but did not win the fourth quarter falling 16-15.

Mykaela Moore did not play in the fourth quarter, but the Mavericks were able to build a 50-point lead in the fourth quarter after
Brooke Harding drilled a three-pointer from near top of the key with 5:47 left in the game.
The Mavericks shot a tick over 52 percent for the game after shooting almost 10 points better for much of the game. They were 16-for-19 from the free throw line and made eight three-point baskets in the game.
They were plus-16 on rebounding at 43-27 and forced 16 turnovers that led to 27 Maverick points. Colorado Mesa turned the ball over just eight times that led to five Westminster points.
Mason Rowland led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field including a perfect 6-for-6 from the stripe. Nine of her 21 points came in the first quarter where she was perfect from the floor.
Reed Thyne finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for 57
th career double-double. She was 7-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line in 23 minutes of action.
Mykaela Moore finished with 14 points, five assists, and five steals while
Cayden King finished with 13 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Hallie Clark had 12 points and four rebounds.
Westminster's (8-15, 5-12 RMAC) Brianna Mendez led the Griffins with 10 points off the bench.
Colorado Mesa has now won 24 straight games this season and 34 straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games dating back to the beginning of last season.
The Mavericks will return home for a showdown with rival Western Colorado on Saturday in Brownson Arena. Colorado Mesa will have their senior night following the women's game.
