GLENDALE, Ariz.— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team picked up a 4-0 win over Arizona Christian University on Saturday here at the Paseo Racquet Center.
The Mavericks improved to 3-5 overall while the Firestorm, ranked 22
nd in the ITA's NAIA National Rankings, fell to 5-3.
Henry Scheck and
William Leschig both went 2-0 throughout the dual as they teamed for a 6-3 win over Peter Wemmenhove and Tobias Frantz at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point after
Luke Burriesci and
Andrew Lock won by a 6-2 margin at No. 3 doubles.
The Firestorm did win the No. 2 doubles match.
The Mavs then made quick work of the dual in the singles matches as Scheck won by retirement after leading Wemmenhove, 3-0 in the opening set.
Meanwhile, Leschig beat Jose Uzcategui, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles before Hultman clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matsvei Kobryk at No. 3 singles.
Burriesci was also up 6-2, 5-2 at No. 6 singles in a match that was on the verge of completion.
CMU went 2-1 on the weekend trip to Arizona and will now return home for their only home matches of the season next Saturday. They will take on NCAA Division III Colorado College in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
An Alumni Reunion Pre-Match Ceremony will be held in between at 1:15 p.m.
