SAN ANGELO, Texas— Colorado Mesa University senior
Allison Waller surpassed the 1,000 career dig milestone as the Maverick volleyball team swept UT Permian Basin before giving up 1-0 and 2-1 leads in a 5-set heartbreaker at the hands of the natin's second-ranked Angelo State University Rambelles on Saturday during the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational here inside ASU's Junell Center and Stephens Arena.
The Mavericks, ranked 23
rd, in the American Volleyball Coaches Associations' Preseason Division II Poll, finished the tournament 3-1.
Angelo State, which advanced to the semifinals of last year's NCAA Tournament improved to 4-0 as they roared back after dropping the first and third sets to take the fourth and fifth and the premier match of the tournament.

The Mavericks dominated the Falcons, hitting .456 as a team while putting down 42 kills, nine service aces and five blocks in a 25-13, 25-9, 25-15 sweep.
CMU redshirt senior outside hitter
Charleston Tidwell recorded ten kills and hit .588 to lead the balanced Maverick attack.
Kaitlyn Hall also put down eight kills on .438 hitting from her opposite position.
Meanwhile, outside hitter
Sadie Scoville recorded five service aces while
Addie Swanson tallied 19 assists.
Waller led all players with nine digs while helping hold UTPB to a .037 team hitting percentage and to just two service aces.
Tidwell and
Aesha Alrashed both had three block assists in the winning effort.
The Mavs recorded 42 kills, more than doubling the Falcons' total of 20. CMU also had a 39-26 advantage in digs.

Waller finished the match with 19 digs, reaching the 1,000 career milestone in the fourth set before leaving the match due to injury. The Loveland, Colorado native then returned mid-way through the fifth set and recorded what was her 1,001
st dig in the final frame while becoming just the tenth Maverick in the rally-scoring era (2001-Present) to reach the mark.
However, the Rambelles hit .333 in both the fourth and fifth sets to claim the 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 15-6 win.
Henley Madsen and Scoville both finished with 11 kills to lead the Maverick attack. Scoville and
Ashlyn Tafoya both recorded their first double-doubles in a Maverick uniform as Scoville added 12 digs while Tafoya finished with 19 assists and 11 digs.
Swanson had 20 assists and three service aces, finishing off the first set with one of those aces.
The Mavericks built a 16-11 first set lead on back-to-back Tidwell kills before the hosts closed the gap to 18-17. The Mavs then got another Tidwell kill and benefited from two Rambelle errors to go ahead 21-17. The home team then cut the gap to 23-22 before Scoville and Swanson's ace gave the Mavs the early lead.
After dropping the second, the Mavericks found themselves down 16-11, 17-13 and 18-14 in the third.
However, a 6-0 run put the Mavericks ahead 20-18 and proved to eventually be enough as the Mavs split the final ten points to claim a 2-1 overall lead.
The Mavs were then guilty of 12 hitting errors the rest of the way as the Rambelles poured it on with 21 combined kills in the final two sets of the comeback victory.
The Mavericks finished the match hitting .169 but hit .278 and .325 in their first and third set wins, respectively. They tallied 50 kills and had 67 digs although the Rambelles recorded 71 kills, 77 digs and ten blocks while also registering eight service aces.
