COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Emil Hultman and Romain Payan both reached the semifinals of the "A" singles draw while freshman Gavin Hutter did the same in the "B" draw to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team to a strong day on Saturday at the Colorado College Invitational here at Memorial Park.

Hutter and Luke Burriesci also went 2-0 in doubles play and are in Sunday's semifinals along with William Leschig and Henry Scheck, who received a first round bye before winning their quarterfinal match over Western New Mexico's Christopher Lund-Kuhl and Djamel-Dine Bey.

Burriesci and Hutter won the first match 6-3 and their second 6-1 over another WNMU pair of David Guta and Mael Houee.

The Mavs' four doubles pairs went a combined 5-2 throughout the day.

CMU also went a combined 4-2 in singles play in the "A" draw as Hultman took down Bey, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round after receiving a first round bye.  Meanwhile, Payan defeated CC's Dylan Ferraro by a 6-2, 6-3 margin before taking out Leschig by a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) margin in all-Maverck quarterfinal matchup.

In the "B" singles draw, Hutter won 6-3, 6-1 over CC's Reed Haymons before wining by a 6-4, 6-3 margin over Lund-Kuhl.

The Mavs' season-opening tournament will resume at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
