FRESNO, Calif.- Manu Ferreira and Josema Fas both won their first-round matches to advance to the round of 32 as the Mavs competed on the first day of ITA Regionals in Fresno.  

The day opened with doubles at the Fig Garden Swim and Racket Club, with all three Maverick doubles teams coming up short in the first round.  

Diego Foncillas and Daniel Blanch were bested by the eight seeded Biola duo Pol Masafret and Guilherme Gracioli 8-5. Fas and Ferreira came up just short against JD Drake and Austin Stone of Westmont 8-7.  

The attention is turned to singles where the Mavs fared a bit better by going 5-4 on the day. Main draw singles took place in the same place as doubles while backdraw matches took place on the campus of Fresno State.  

Fas got his revenge on Westmont's Drake as he beat him in a very close match 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.  

Ferreira also battled to get a massive win over the tenth seed Eemil Pasanen, coming back from a 6-0 setback in the second set to do so.  

Foncillas locked horns with Biola's Kian Azadi for his first round match; he won the first set but fell in second and in a close third-set tiebreak. He would go on to beat Menlo's David Espinosa Navarro 8-3 in to keep his tournament alive in the consolation bracket.  

Gavin Hutter and Luke Burriesci both came up short in their round singles matches, but both stayed alive in the consolation bracket.
