General
  • Six different Maverick squads will compete in their respective NCAA Division II National Championship events this week.
  • The Mavericks have eight winter and spring sports ranked inside the top 25 of their respective coaching organization's national poll.
  • Six are in the top ten while four are in the top five.
  • The Mavericks have already won a conference-leading four RMAC titles this academic year.
  • CMU is also the only RMAC institution that had both basketball teams selected for the NCAA Tournament.
Women's Basketball
  • The Mavericks won their seventh RMAC Tournament title in program history and their first since 2019 as they won all three of their games last week in Brownson Arena.
  • The victories allowed the Mavericks to set a new program record for wins in a season (33).
  • They also went 15-0 at home, recording their perfect home record since 2013-14.
  • CMU has also won 30 consecutive games, a program record.
  • That streak is also the longest in Division II and the tied for the third longest in all of NCAA women's basketball.  Division III NYU (89) and Division I UConn (50) are the only other programs with a longer winning streak.
  • Their 33-1 overall record is the best in Division II.
  • The Mavs are now ranked third in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches' Poll, released on Tuesday.
  • Olivia Reed Thyne scored 107 points in the tournament, averaging 35.7 per game.  She was named as the MVP and became the new CMU single-season record holder for points with 751, breaking the 12-year old record of 750, set by Sharaya Selsor.
  • Mason Rowland was one of the four Mavericks named to the RMAC All-Tournament team.  She had a career-high 35 points in Saturday's 92-67 championship game win over second-seeded UCCS.
  • Rowland also set a program record for free throws in a game, going 19-for-19.  She had 20 of her points in the fourth quarter, as the Mavs outscored the Mountain Lions, 34-10 in that quarter to claim the victory.
  • Her perfect 19-for-19 effort is also the second best in NCAA Division II history.
  • Hallie Clark and Mykaela Moore were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
  • On Sunday night, the Mavericks were officially selected for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year and tenth time in program history.  They are the No. 3 seed in the South Central Region and will play No. 6 seed Lubbock Christian on Friday at Noon CDT (11 a.m. Mountain) in the first game of the regional.
  • CMU is 7-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and will look to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2013.
  • The All-RMAC honors and major awards were announced last week and saw Olivia Reed Thyne garner her straight RMAC Player of the Year honor as well as her fourth First Team All-RMAC selection.
  • Reed Thyne is just the second player in RMAC history to ever earn three straight Player of the Year honors.
  • Maverick Coach Taylor Wagner also earned RMAC Coach of the Year honors for the third straight season and the eighth time in his 14-year tenure with the Mavs.
  • Rowland was also named to the First Team All-RMAC unit while Mykaela Moore picked up Second Team honors.
  • The Mavs scored over 90 points in all three of their RMAC Tournament games, recording a 96-41 win over Colorado School of Mines in the quarterfinal round last Tuesday, the largest RMAC Tournament margin of victory since 1999.
  • The Mavs then won 94-57 over Black Hills State in Friday's semifinals as Reed Thyne scored 40 points, tied for third most in CMU history as she became the first Maverick to ever score 40 or more points in two different games.  She scored a school-record 45 in December, 2024.
  • Reed Thyne enters her third and final NCAA Tournament with 2,347 career points and 1,361 career rebounds, which are CMU and RMAC records.
  • She is now just 21 rebounds away from becoming Colorado's collegiate all-time leading rebounder (all divisions).
Men's Basketball Swimming & Diving Men's Track & Field
  • Two Maverick sprinters in Teo Casados and Joseph Randoloph will compete in the 200 meters at this weekend's NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
  • Randolph broke Casasds' school record with a time of 20.92 seconds earlier this season and is seeded sixth in the event this week with the altitude-adjusted time of 20.99.
  • Casados also bettered his former school record in the same race and is seeded 11th with his altitude-adjusted mark of 21.10.
  • He is competing in his second straight NCAA Championships after also representing the Mavs at the 2025 outdoor meet.
  • Randolph is a first time NCAA Division II Championship qualifier but won four all-America honors at the NAIA level while competing for Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois over the past two academic years.
  • Izaak Siefken smashed his own school record by more than 12 feet in the javelin throw as he and throws coach Jay Shuman ventured to Long Beach, California for Friday's Beach Opener, hosted by Long Beach State.  His throw of 68.58 meters (225 feet, 0 inches) currently ranks him second on the early-season national performance list and would have put tenth on last year's list.  He is very likely to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time in May with that mark.
  • The remainder of the Maverick squads are preparing for their first full outdoor meet of the season next week, when CMU will host the Early Bird Open next Thursday and Friday.
Men's Wrestling Women's Wrestling Baseball Men's Lacrosse Beach Volleyball

  • They are now 4-4 overall this season.
  • The Mavs defeated Central Wyoming and Trinidad State by 5-0 scores in tri-duals on both Friday and Saturday.
  • The Saturday win over Central Wyoming was the 100th in the program's history and the 100th for Head Coach David Skaff, who has been in charge of the Maverick program since its inception in 2016.
  • The Mavericks then recognized four seniors prior to Saturday's dual against Trinidad State.
  • CMU won all 48 sets and 24 matches, including exhibition matches, throughout the weekend.
  • The Mavs will play nine matches in a span of five days next week on their Spring Break trip to the Southeastern United States.  That stretch begins with a Tuesday, Mar. 17 doubleheader against NCAA Division I Tennessee Tech in Louisville, Tennessee.

  • The Mavs outscored the Orediggers 23-11 in the series while having two games with 10-plus hits.
  • They split Sunday's doubleheader, falling the first game 3-1, before rallying for a 10-3 win.
