The Mavericks totaled 12 runs in today's two wins while winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
Over the course of the whole weekend they outscored Mines 23-11 while recording two games with 10-plus hits.
Colorado Mesa is now an even 10-10 this season while improving to 9-3 in the RMAC to tie for second place. Mines moves to 11-11 while falling to 7-5 in the RMAC.
Below is a short recap of each game:
GAME 1 (CMU 6, MINES 1):
Being led by a three-hitter from Sophia Tassinari, the Mavs once again claimed the first win of a doubleheader this weekend with them taking advantage of three Orediggers' errors and collecting seven hits.
The first two innings were zeros in today's game with the Mavs attacking first in the top of the third.
Colorado Mesa put up two runs that inning with Allison Lindsay helping be responsible for them as she hit an RBI single to centerfield. She drove in one run on that play with a defensive error by the Mines' centerfielder also allowing Kamdyn Hagerty to come around as well.
The Orediggers got one run back in the bottom of the third thanks to a bases loaded walk but couldn't muster any more offense the rest of the game as they only totaled one more hit.
Khloe Kubitschek hammered her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the fourth to return the run with the Mavs then scoring three more runs over the final three innings.
Kubitschek recorded another RBI in the fifth on an error by the Mines defense with Makayla Westmoreland also bringing in one after working a bases loaded walk.
April Neill rounded out the Mavs' scoring efforts with her driving in the game's sixth and final run in the top of the seventh.
Tassinari went all seven innings in the circle while limiting the Mines' offense to just one run on three hits and striking out four. She improved her season-long record to 5-5 while completing today's game in under 100 pitches.
Kubitschek led the Mavs' offense with two RBIs herself while Brynn Escobar and Neill both enjoyed 2-3 performances.
GAME 2 (CMU 6, MINES 4):
The Mavs claimed the series victory to close out their day as they used a seventh inning push to solidify the win.
The Orediggers led 3-0 through the first inning with them opening the game on three straight hits and being aided by a CMU error.
The Mavs responded with a four-spot in the third to take over the lead as they totaled six hits themselves.
Brynn Escobar scored on a wild pitch that inning while Khloe Kubitschek drove in the second run before Makayla Westmoreland would later single in a couple more.
Mines tied the game back up in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of doubles to make it even again but not before the Mavs made their final push of the day in the top of the seventh.
Scoring two runs, Both Tegan Medina and Allison Lindsay led off the inning with back-to-back doubles to score the first of them before Kubitschek came up big again, hitting a single to left field to bring in the other.
Sophia Tassinari was able to close out the seventh inning in just four batters after relieving starter Marisa Nehm in the sixth inning as the pair combined for the Mavs' 10th win of the season.
Tassinari earned the win in the second game as well with her record now improving to 6-5.
10 of the frames in the game featured zeros with all the scoring happening in just four innings despite 23 combined hits being managed.
Kubitschek was responsible for three of those hits as she went 3-3 while Escobar and Lindsay each had two hits apiece.
