Mason Rowland had 35 points and
Olivia Reed Thyne had 33 points to lead No. 4 Colorado Mesa to a 92-67 win over second-seeded UCCS in the Championship Game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in Brownson Arena on Saturday (Mar. 7) evening in front of 1,925 fans.
It was the Mavericks first tournament title since 2019 and have now won 30 consecutive games while pushing their overall record to 33-1. The win avenged UCCS' 63-61 win in the 2025 RMAC Tournament, which was also played in Brownson Arena.
UCCS' led 57-56 on a bucket by Amyah Moore Allen with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter and that would be their last lead. Reed Thyne put in a layup at the buzzer of the third quarter to make it 58-57 heading to the fourth quarter.
Colorado Mesa outscored UCCS 34-10 in the fourth quarter. They jumped out on an 11-0 run to begin the frame and extended the lead to 16 at 75-59 with 4:47 to play. The Mountain Lions first points of the quarter came with 4:27 to play after a pair of free-throws.
Their first field goal came at the 4:04 mark of the fourth quarter.
Mason Rowland scored a career-high 35 points and set a program record for free-throws made in a game with 19. She finished the game 19-for-19 (100.0) which is also a program record for most free-throws in a game without a miss. The 19-for-19 is tied for second-best in NCAA Division II history.
The Durango, Colo. native was named to the All-Tournament team and has now scored 21 points or more in seven straight games. She finished with 78 points in the tournament.
Rowland was in foul trouble in the first half picking up two quick fouls in the first quarter. She wound up scoring 31 points in the second half with 20 coming in the fourth quarter.
She scored the first seven points of the Mavericks 11-0 run to open the fourth quarter.
Olivia Reed Thyne was named the RMAC Tournament MVP after scoring 33 points and pulling down 20 rebounds in the final. It was her second double-double in two nights of competition as she finished with 107 points (35.7 points per game) during the three-game tournament.
She is now the Mavericks single season record holder for points in a season with 751. She passes WBCA National Player of the Year finalist Sharaya Selsor (Cowan) who had 750 points during the 2013-14 season.
The Windsor, Colo. native had 15 points in the first quarter and had 26 points and 11 rebounds in the first half.
Rowland and Reed Thyne outscored the Mountain Lions in the game 68-67.
Senior
Mykaela Moore, who made the All-Tournament Team, had nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
RMAC All-Tournament team honoree Amyah Moore Allen finished with 30 points to lead the Mountain Lions who made the tournament final for the third straight season.
The Mavericks were 33-for-38 (86.8 percent) from the free-throw line throughout the game and drained all 17 in the final quarter of play.
Mason Rowland made 13 in the final quarter.
By winning the tournament, the Mavericks earn the RMAC automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. They will be making their tenth tournament appearance including their third straight trip.
It is the seventh time the Mavericks won the tournament title and matched the RMAC record with their sixth in the NCAA Division II era. They have played in the title game 11 times since 1993 and are now 6-5
Colorado Mesa will now await the NCAA Selection Show tomorrow evening at 8:30pm MDT. The show will air on NCAA.com where the entire field of 64 will be released.
