LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened their spring schedule on Monday (Mar. 9) as they completed the first round of the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invitational at Wigwam Resort.
The Mavericks are in the hunt for the team title after the first round of action as they are just three strokes back of the leaders in Western New Mexico. They shot a 19-over, 307 as three of the four Maverick scorers shot in the 70s.
RMAC foe MSU Denver is one stroke back of the Mavericks with Concordia St. Paul one stroke behind the Roadrunners with Chadron State in fifth at 23-over, 311.
Anju Ogi paced the team with a 2-over, 74 to put her fourth in the medalist race. Ogi played the first nine holes to 1-under with a birdie on the short par-5, hole four. Her paced slowed on the back nine with two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey for a 39.
She is just one stroke back of the leaders as three players are tied for the lead at 1-over, 73.
Payton Panzeri had a solid day on the course as she fired a 4-over, 76 in her first round of the tournament. Panzeri finished her day with two birdies and six bogeys. She birdied the same hole as her teammate in No. 4 then earned one on the par-4, No. 15 on the back nine.
McKenzie Dolph (5-over, 77) and
Hunter Gledhill (8-over, 80) were the final two Maverick scorers.
Hayden Hawley, playing as an individual, shot in the 70s as she finished in 23
rd place with a 7-over, 79.
The Mavericks will be in the final pairings of the tournament and are scheduled to tee off at 3:00pm mountain time.
