GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team claimed its first two wins of the season, dominating college foes Central Wyoming College and Trinidad State College in a Friday tri-dual in blustery conditions here at the CMU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Mavericks won both duals 5-0 and held their opponents to single digit totals in 19 of the 24 sets as they opened their lone home weekend with the two wins while improving to 27-0 all-time on home sand.
In between, the
Central Wyoming Rustlers edged the Trinidad State Trojans, 3-2.
The Mavs used the same pairings in the top four flights of both duals but mixed things in the No. 5 and exhibition No. 6 portion of the lineup while improving to 2-4 on the season.
Top flight pair
Gracyn Spresser and
Ellie Ask were 21-9, 21-3 winners over Central Wyoming's Ella Sevnsson and Coco Denison and then beat Trinidad State's Kylie Williams and Dakota Martinez, 21-10, 21-5.
At No. 2,
Ania Swartzendruber and
Ewelina Gacek were 21-5, 21-10 winners over the Rustlers before posting a similar 21-9, 21-6 win over the Trojans.
Regan Rothley and
Lauren Rohlwing blasted the Rustlers' pair of Presley Ryan and Nora Rasmussen, 21-1, 21-11 on Court 3. The Maverick duo then won 21-5, 21-6 over the Trojans later in the day.
At No. 4,
Mikala Henderson and
Addie Ritterbush paired together for the first time this season and won a 21-5, 21-8 match over the Rustlers' Quincey Mathews and Brynlee Birch. Henderson and Ritterbush then won 21-7, 21-5 over the Trojan duo of Araceli Rueda and Kya Gilmore.
Against the Rustlers,
Ava Blanco and
Stormi Tadlock were easy 21-1, 21-5 winners on Court 5.
Tadlock then paired with
Jessica Passi for a 21-6, 21-5 win over Trinidad State.
Meanwhile,
Jada Whitall and
Avery Malek won the exhibition match against Central Wyoming by 21-5 and 21-11 scores.
Phoenix Slager and
Bella Friess then won a 21-9, 21-11 exhibition decision over Trinidad State.

th and 99
th for Maverick Head Coach
David Skaff, who will gun for his 100
th career win on Saturday morning against Central Wyoming, starting at 11 a.m.
The two junior college foes will then face-off before the Mavs will close out the Maverick Invitational weekend against Trinidad State at roughly 3 p.m.
Prior to that dual at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Mavs will recognize their four of their players— Gacek, Passi, Spresser and Tadlock— during a Senior Day presentation.
