LEXINGTON, Ky.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team had a program-record three pairs receive a Top Flight Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, which announced the honors on Friday.
The Top Flight program, now in its eight year, recognizes beach pairs who win at least 75 percent of their matches together at a specific flight. The players must play together in at least 15 matches in that flight.
The Mavericks' No. 2, 3 and 4 pairs were all recognized on the list of 80 pairs representing 35 schools from all three NCAA Divisions, the NAIA and two-year colleges.
CMU's No. 2 pair of
Ewelina Gacek and
Ania Swartzendruber went 18-3 in that flight.
The No. 3 duo of newcomers
Mikala Henderson and
Addie Ritterbush were 16-5 while No. 4 pair
Lauren Rohlwing and
Regan Rothley went 19-2 while winning their final six decisions.
The selected Maverick pairs are the third, fourth and fifth in program history to win the award. Sabrina VanDeList and Tye Wedhorn were honored in 2022 at No. 5 while Hahni Johnson and Amanda Ollinger were selected for their No. 1 play in 2024.
As a team, the Mavericks finished the 2026 season with a 19-9 record and went 5-1 at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships, where they won the Silver Bracket title after going 3-1 in pool play.
