#4 Mavericks extend win streak to 17 with walk-off win over Highlands

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa moved their win streak to 17 games as they completed the four-game sweep of the New Mexico Highlands after a 4-3 walk-off win on Sunday (Mar. 8) afternoon at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark.

The two teams played to a 3-3 score heading to the bottom of the ninth inning. Joey Blank led off the bottom half of the inning with a single up the middle and moved all the way over to third base on a failed pickoff attempt that scooted up the fence on the first base line.

New Mexico Highlands deployed a five-man infield with Blank being the winning run at third base and nobody out. Trevor Tse walked to put runners on first and third with nobody out and Kennedy Hara stepping to the plate.

Kennedy Hara sent a 1-0 pitch to deep center field that fell in for the walk-off base hit, scoring Blank from third whether the outfielder would have caught it or not.

Hara finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and a go-ahead RBI.

Jackson Eisenhauer got the start and pitched four innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out six. He didn't factor into the decision and handed the game to his bullpen.

Senior Sage Ferguson pitched the final two and a third innings and allowed one hit while striking out three to move his record to 1-0 on the season.

The bullpen pitched five innings of relief and allowed one run on six hits with no walks and striking out seven.

On Sunday, Colorado Mesa wrapped up their 16-game home stand and finished with a perfect 16-0 record.

The Mavericks will now head out on the road for the next nine games beginning this Wednesday when they take on Division I Utah Valley in Orem. Following the midweek game, they will head over to Pueblo for a four-game set with CSU Pueblo beginning on Friday March 13.
