Volleyball Swimming & Diving
  • The Maverick men's and women's teams will both begin their season this weekend hosting NCAA Division I and Big XII Conference foe BYU and RMAC rival Adams State in the Intermountain Shootout.
  • Swimming and diving events will be held concurrently, starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday inside the El Pomar Natatorium.
  • Each day of the meet will be scored separately in an invitational-style scoring system.
  • Both Maverick teams were unanimous No. 1 picks to win their eighth straight conference crowns in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Polls that were announced last Thursday.
  • The Maverick women also had nine athletes claim 14 of the 16 possible spots on the Preseason All-RMAC team, which was made up of the top returning athlete in each individual event from last year's RMAC Championships.  RMAC Diver of the Year Kenya Meyer, RMAC Freshman of the Year Kendyll Wilkinson and 3-event Preseason All-RMAC pick Olivia Hansson help headline that list.
  • CMU's men had four Preseason All-RMAC selections and return RMAC Diver of the Year Ryan Campbell and Freshman of the Year Richard Schmiedefeld.
  • CMU's women finished third while the Maverick men placed ninth at last year's NCAA Division II National Championships.
Women's Soccer

  • The Mavericks (6-2, 2-0 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian, 1-0 on Friday night and beat MSU Denver, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
  • Kylie Wells scored goals in both games and now has seven goals, including four game-winners this season.  The Fruita product leads the RMAC in goals and is tied tie for the conference-lead in game-winner.
  • Olivia Barrett also scored her first goal of the season to put CMU up 1-0 in the 34th minute of Sunday's game.
  • The Mavs outshot Colorado Christian, 25-1, and MSU Denver, 16-4.
  • Junior goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek recorded shutouts in both games and now has five this season and 25 in her career.

  • The Mavericks have a split weekend ahead against their two Western Slope rivals.  They will play at Fort Lewis (3-4-1, 0-2 RMAC) in Durango on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Western Colorado (0-7-1, 0-0-1 RMAC) for their Senior Day game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Community Hospital Unity Field.

  • George Soppe (12) and Kash Bradley (10) were also in double-figures for tackles.  Bradley also had an interception, continuing the Mavericks' momentum just one play after Brown's 75-yard touchdown run sparked a comeback from 31-7 down to within 34-27 on Brown's 59-yard touchdown with 3:02 remaining.
  • The Mavs will look to retain the Nyikos Cup this week when they travel to Golden to take on rival Colorado School of Mines, who they will play on the road for the first time since 2022.
  • Mines is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in RMAC play after winning at Black Hills State, 36-27 this past Saturday.

  • Neither game counted in the RMAC standings.
