Rodriguez's ITA Regional run comes to an end at hands of tournament winner

CMU junior falls in semifinals

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif.— Colorado Mesa University junior Devyn Rodriguez saw her run through the ITA West Regional Championships come to an end on Saturday as Rodriguez fell 7-5, 6-1 to second-seeded and eventual tournament winner Alina Kupfer of Point Loma Nazarene University in the semifinal round of the women's singles draw here at the Biola Tennis Center.

Kupfer then won the regional title with a 6-2, 7-5 win over unseeded Fabiana Gonzalez of Fresno Pacific University.

Rodriguez had won four straight matches earlier in the tournament on Thursday and Friday and will finish the fall season with a 9-2 record unless she is selected for one of the four wild cards to next month's ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia.

As the regional champion, Kupfer will receive an automatic berth.  Four other players will be selected from the pool of eight regional finalists while the final four spots will be selected from a pool of the regional quarterfinalists, largely based on last year's national rankings.
