Football
- The Mavs, 1-1 on the season, had a bye last week and will begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Play by hosting CSU Pueblo this Saturday (Sept. 20) at 2 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.
- The ThunderWolves are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in RMAC play this season and are ranked 12th in both the AFCA Coaches Poll and 12th in the D2Football.com Media Poll this week.
- They are coming off a 29-24 road win over Central Missouri last Thursday night.
- The Mavericks are gunning for their 500th win in program history since 1925.
- The Mavericks are ranked second in the RMAC statistics for passing defense, allowing just 149.5 yards per game through their first two contests.
- Maverick sophomore wide receiver Trek Keyworth is tied for the national statistical lead in yards per reception at 31.3.
- Punter Sullivan Moon leads the RMAC and ranks third nationally in punting average (46.6).
Women's Soccer
- The Mavericks, who were 15th in last week's national poll, are now 3-1 overall after shutting out NCAA Division II West Region foe Northwest Nazarene by a 2-0 score on Thursday night at home before falling 1-0 to NCAA Division I Wyoming on Sunday in Laramie.
- The Mavericks are 3-0 against Division II foes and have outscored them 10-0 this season. All three of those wins have come at home.
- Keely Wieczorek has registered an RMAC-leading three shutouts to rank second nationally and has conceded just one goal in four complete games to post a 0.25 goals against average, which ranks her third in the RMAC.
- Kiley Wells scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season from the penalty mark in the 72nd minute of Thursday's win after Peyton Bundy had given the Mavs a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Wells also had an assist on Bundy's goal and is tied for the RMAC lead in both goals and offensive points.
- The Mavs are on the road in California this week, taking on Azusa Pacific on Thursday night and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon. CSUDH was receiving votes in last week's United Soccer Coaches National Poll.
- A new national poll is slated for release on Tuesday.
Triathlon
- The Mavs made program history on Sunday racing close to home in an official NCAA race at Highline Lake State Park during the Desert's Edge Collegiate Cup, hosted in conjunction with the Grand Junction Sports Commission.
- The Mavericks took seventh in the loaded field that included six NCAA Division I squads, including the Preseason Co-No. 1 teams in Arizona State and Arizona, which have combined to win the last eight national championships.
- The Mavs, ranked third in the Division II CTCA Preseason Coaches' Poll, did defeat the only other Division II squad in the field (No. 7 Black Hills State).
- Arizona State won the team crown with 295 points and had the second, third and fourth overall finishers. Arizona's Kelly Wetteland won her second race of the season and helped the Wildcats take second with 283 points.
- CMU freshman and Estonia native Alexandra Schipai was the Mavs' top finisher, taking 32nd with a time of 1:08:20 in her collegiate debut.
- New national rankings are expected this week.
- CMU will next compete at the Prairie State Cup on Oct. 4 in Dewitt, Illinois.
Volleyball
- The Mavericks, were ranked 18th in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II/TARAFLEX Poll.
- They went 1-2 at last week's Cal State LA Tournament, falling to No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 14 Simon Fraser on both sides of a win over host Cal State LA, receiving votes in the national poll.The Mavs are now 4-3 on the season. - Senior outside hitter Sadie Scoville was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight weekend.
- Freshman opposite Henley Madsen recorded 31 kills (3.44/set) over the weekend now leads the team with 64, one more than Scoville.
- Madsen ranks ninth in the RMAC for hitting percentage (.333) while Scoville sits eighth for service aces (0.50/set).
- CMU begins RMAC play this weekend, traveling to Adams State on Friday and New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night.
- A new national poll is slated for release on Monday afternoon. The Mavs have been ranked for 43 consecutive polls since the Week. No. 1 poll in 2022.
Men's Soccer
- The Mavs fell to 1-2-1 on the year after falling 2-0 to Western Oregon and 4-3 at Northwest Nazarene last Thursday and Saturday, respectively in Nampa, Idaho.
- Jonah Elstatd, Kamden Kooiman and Justin Ibrahim all scored goals in the high-scoring Northwest Nazarene game.
- Kooiman now has three goals this season to lead the team and rank second (tie) in the RMAC statistics.
- The Mavs will play another Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe and NCAA Super Region opponent Simon Fraser (0-2-2) in their lone match this week. That will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Community Hospital Unity Field, where the Mavs are undefeated (1-0-1) this season.
- The Mavs and Red Leafs, who hail from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, will be playing each other for the fifth straight year.
- The Mavs are 3-0-1 against them and have outscored the Red Leafs, 13-1 in those four match-ups.
Women's Tennis
Men's Tennis
- The Mavs played at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kansas on Friday and Saturday (Friday Recap | Saturday Recap)
- The Mavericks had a winning combined record of 11-10 in singles play as Emil Hultman and Romain Payan both went 3-0 while advancing to the Purple Bracket final before deciding to play other opponents instead of matching up with one another.
- Payan and partner Jamison Pfingston went 2-0 in doubles play as the Mavericks went 4-4 as a team.
- Hultman has posted a 6-0 record in singles so far this fall.
- Payan and Pfingston are 4-1 to lead the Mavs in doubles.
- The Maverick men are off this week before concluding the fall at the ITA West Regional Championships.
Women's Golf
- The Maverick women started their 2025 fall season last week (Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 8-9) at the Swan Memorial, tying for fourth place with a team score of 621 (Day One Recap | Day Two Recap)
- True freshman Hayden Hawley led the Mavs with a 12th place (tie) individual finish and a 36-hole, 2-day score of 149 (+5). She posted a round of 1-under par 71 in the second round, tied for third best in program history.
- The Mavericks are playing in their second tournament this week, participating in the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational at Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan, Wyoming.
- That tournament is underway and will continue through Tuesday.
- The Mavs will then play at the Wasatch Invitational in South Jordan, Utah on Sunday and Monday.
Men's Golf
Cross Country
- The Mavs were off last week but will return to the course this Saturday at MSU Denver's Roadrunner Invite at Washington Park in Denver.
- The men's race will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's at 9:15 a.m.
- The Maverick women were slotted 20th in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll, released earlier this month, their highest ranking in 10 years. They were also picked eighth in the South Central Regional rankings.
- The Maverick men were ranked tenth in the regional preseason rankings.
- New rankings are expected out this Tuesday (regional) and Wednesday (national).
Swimming & Diving
- The Mavericks will begin the exhibition season this Friday (Sept. 19), when they host their annual Intrasquad Meet at 3:30 p.m.
- The Mavs will then host the Intermountain Shootout on Oct. 3-4 to officially begin the season.
