LOS ANGELES— The 14
th-ranked Simon Fraser University Red Leafs won the first two sets and were able to close out the match in four to remain undefeated as the 18
th-ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks dropped their weekend finale at the Cal State LA Tournament on Saturday afternoon here in the University Gym.
The Red Leafs, now 6-0 on the season, registered 14 blocks and received 17 kills from Natalie Lemoine-Sells in the 25-20, 25-17, 15-25, 25-17 victory. The Mavs fell to 1-2 on the weekend and to 4-3 on the season despite a season-high 13 kills on impressive .393 hitting from freshman opposite
Henley Madsen.
All three losses have come to teams currently ranked inside the nation's top 20.
The Red Leafs hit .219 throughout the match, chugging along at a .368 and .389 clip in the first two sets before the Mavericks were able to dominate the third set as the Red Leafs committed 11 hitting errors while hitting negative .057 in the frame.
However, the Red Leafs were able to record six blocks and four service aces in the fourth set to close out the victory.
SFU had 14 blocks throughout the match as Logan Remington, who set a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record last weekend, had six. They also registered nine service aces throughout the match and tallied 50 kills, six more than the Mavs, who hit .163 as a team.
CMU also recorded seven blocks and had ten service aces, three of which came from senior outside hitter
Sadie Scoville, who managed eight kills.

Emma Luce also had nine kills and seven digs while freshman libero
Addison Wright tallied 16 digs.
Freshman setter
Ashlyn Tafoya had 29 assists and four blocks as the Mavericks went to a 5-1 system for the third and fourth sets.
Aesha Alrashed had five blocks to lead the Mavs in that area.
Lemoine-Sells was named as the tournament's MVP and was joined on the 6-player all-tournament team by teammate Eva Person.
Scoville earned the honor for CMU and has been named to the all-tournament team at both of CMU's weekend tournaments to open up the season.
The Mavericks will open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend playing at Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado on Friday (Sept. 19) before venturing to Las Vegas, New Mexico to take on New Mexico Highlands on Saturday (Sept. 20).
