Mavs drop 2-0 decision to Wolves

NAMPA, Idaho – The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer Team suffered a 2-0 defeat this afternoon against the Western Oregon Wolves as they begin their two-game road trip in Idaho at NNU Soccer Field.

With the loss the Mavericks now move to an even 1-1-1 record on the year.

Trailing early in the game, Colorado Mesa fell down 1-0 in the 14th minute of play as the Wolves scored successfully on a crossed pass from near the corner to which Alex Grignon headed in.

Entering half, the Wolves led 1-0 with them outshooting the Mavs 7-0 through 45 minutes of play with this being the first time this season the Mavs haven't recorded a shot in a half of play.

In the 65th minute the Wolves added the final goal of the night with Yahir Ocampo Navarro being the scorer this time to raise the lead to two.

In total the Wolves outshot the Mavs 11-3 in the match with the trio of Manuel Ponce Casas, Nathan Hernandez and Kensho Negi each having one shot apiece. Hernandez was the only one of the three to record a shot on goal.

Despite being outshot the Mavs won the corner battle as they recorded four corner kicks compared to the Wolves' three.

Following tonight's game the Mavs continue their stay in Idaho this weekend as they take on host school Northwest Nazarene University on Sunday afternoon at 3 P.M. Streaming can be found on the GNAC Network or at https://www.gnacnetwork.com/nnunighthawks/
