General
- All eight CMU winter sports will once again be in action this week.
- Five spring sports will begin their seasons next week.
- Eight different Maverick teams are nationally-ranked in various coaching organization or media polls.
- Thursday night's basketball doubleheader is the Mavs' annual Blizzard in Brownson promotion.
- Fans are encouraged to dress in white and 500 Rally Towels will be handed out prior to the game.
- Prize drawings for ski passes to Telluride and Denver Nuggets tickets will also be given out.

Women's Basketball
- The Mavericks extended their winning streak to 17 games as they picked up a pair of home wins last week over Black Hills State and Chadron State on Thursday night and Saturday.
- The Mavs, who continue to sit ninth in the WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll (new poll out Tuesday) are now 20-1 overall and atop the RMAC standings with a perfect 10-0 mark at the half-way point of the conference schedule.
- Maverick standout Olivia Reed Thyne became the RMAC's all-time leading scorer in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 70-41 win over Chadron State. She scored 23 points in that game and now has 2,010, surpassing the 24-year old record of 2,002, which had been set by Becky Gonzalez of New Mexico Highlands in 2002.
- Reed Thyne is also the first RMAC player to ever record more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is only the 48th player in NCAA Division II history to accomplish that feat.
- She now has 1,196 career rebounds, the most of any active NCAA Division II player by nearly 200.
- Reed Thyne (15), Mason Rowland (14) and Hallie Clark (12) all led the Mavs in Thursday's 62-49 win over Black Hills State, which came into the game just a game behind the Mavs in the RMAC standings and riding a 9-game winning streak.
- Rowland also recorded ten rebounds in that game to register her fifth double-double while Reed Thyne had nine rebounds and three blocks.
- Rowland also had a career-high five steals while scoring 13 points in Saturday's win.
- The Mavs have now won 20 or more games in three straight seasons and ten times under 14th-year Head Coach Taylor Wagner.
- The Mavs, who are 7-0 at home this season, will wrap up a 5-game homestand with Thursday night and Sunday afternoon contests against CSU Pueblo (9-9, 5-5 RMAC) and UCCS (11-7, 7-3 RMAC).
Men's Basketball
- The Mavericks (11-7, 7-3 RMAC) split a pair of home games last week, falling 85-63 to hot-shooting Black Hills State on Thursday before bouncing back for a 86-68 win over Chadron State on Saturday.
- Black Hills State, ranked 21st nationally, matched a school-record by hitting 19 3-pointers in Thursday's game.
- Clayton Jewell recorded his fourth straight double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds to lead the Mavs.
- Ty Allred then recorded a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, his sixth of the season and first in 2026, in Saturday's win.
- Harvey White also added 16 points while Jewell added 12 points and seven rebounds. Wes Ball also scored a dozen.
- Meanwhile, Ben Henderson tallied nine assists, the most of any Maverick in the team's 47 games under Head Coach Mike Dunlap.
- The team's 24 assists were also the most in that time.
- The Mavs, who are 6-1 at home this season and 5-2 during the month of January, will wrap up the month and a 5-game homestand with games against CSU Pueblo and UCCS on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
- The Mavs are part of a 3-way tie for third in the RMAC standings with CSU Pueblo (13-5, 7-3 RMAC) and are two games up on UCCS (10-8, 5-5 RMAC) in the conference standings.
Women's Wrestling
- The Mavericks (10-8, 2-1 RMAC) claimed a 30-18 road win over Adams State in their lone action of the week on Sunday afternoon in Alamosa.
- CMU, which continues to sit seventh in the national rankings, has now reached double-figures for dual wins in four straight seasons.
- The Mavs claimed three pins, two 11-0 technical fall wins and a forfeit en route to the RMAC victory.
- The team lead in the dual changed hands five times but ultimately went the Mavs way as Valerie Glenn posted a  key160-pound technical fall win to improved to 11-2 on the season before Kimberly Carlin clinched it with a pin at 180 pounds. The Grizzlies then forfeited at 207.
- Adriana Gomez (110) and Brooke McCurley (131) also pinned their opponents while fourth-ranked Lorianna Piestewa scored a 11-0 technical fall win at 124 pounds.
- Piestewa is one of the Mavs' five nationally-ranked wrestlers. That list also includes, Mia Zuniga (3rd, 103 lbs.), Sophia Cornish (10th, 117), Gretchen Donally (9th, 145) and Jayleen Sekona (6th, 207).
- The Mavs will return to tournament action this week and will look to defend their RMAC Tournament title on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy this Saturday.
- Returners Hania Halverson, Jojo McDaniel and Lorianna Piestewa all won individual titles at last year's RMAC Championships.
Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving
Men's & Women's Track & Field
- The Mavericks returned to action after a 7-week hiatus on Saturday, faring well at the Big Red Machine Open in Gunnison.
- The Mavs won 13 events and set six new marks on the program's all-time top 10 lists.
- The Maverick men won five of the six field events with Van Chambers (weight throw), Austin Schultz (shot put), Asa Keim (pole vault), Hayden Moreno (long jump) and Benson White (high jump) all winning events. Keim and White were amongst several Maverick freshman who made their collegiate debuts.
- The Maverick men also picked up a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 60-meter hurdles with Trevor Kendall leading the way and won the 4x400-meter relay to cap the day.
- CMU's women won five events on the track and another in the field.
- Elaina Arcand (200), Waycee Harvey (400), Megan Hodges (Mile), Kaitlyn Pearson (60 Hurdles) and the 4x400-meter relay all won their events.
- Kendra Ritzmann also won the triple jump for the second straight meet, eclipsing the NCAA Championship provisional qualifying standard once again.
- The Mavs have 13 marks that rank amongst the RMAC's top five after their two meets.
- CMU will continue action this weekend, splitting their squad between the Mines Winter Classic in Golden, Colorado and the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque. Both meets will be contested Friday and Saturday.Â
Men's Wrestling
- The Mavericks dropped their lone dual last week, falling 24-16 to the Colorado School of Mines on Friday night.
- Both teams are tied for 22nd in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association's Rankings, which were released last Thursday.
- The Mavs also have a pair of nationally-ranked individuals in Owen Cline, ranked seventh at 157 pounds, and Gabriel Carranza, tabbed eight at 197 pounds.
- The Mavs, now 4-3 overall and 1-2 in RMAC duals won four straight bouts from 133-157 pounds in Friday's dual, taking a 16-6 lead before the Orediggers won five straight to claim the victory.
- AJ Hague (133), Apollo Cruz (141), Alex Castaneda (149) and Cline were all victorious.
- Castaneda defeated third-ranked Cody Thompson, 6-4, handing the Oredigger 2024 NCAA finalist, his first loss of the season.
- Cruz recorded a pin.
- The Mavs' scheduled exhibition dual at Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday in Rangely has been canceled.
- The Mavs will be back in action for the Bank of Colorado Battle in Brownson on Thursday, Feb. 5 against CSU Pueblo.
Baseball
Softball
- The Mavericks were picked second in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced last Thursday.
- The Mavs are coming off the 2025 season, when they went 40-17 overall and 35-9 in RMAC to take second.
- The Mavs received three first place votes and tallied 109 points. Colorado Christian received seven first place votes to top the poll with 117 points while MSU Denver picked up two third place votes to finish third in the poll with 102 points.
- Redshirt sophomore pitcher Jessalyn Gallegos and senior outfielder Makayla Westmoreland were both named to the Preseason All-RMAC team, which was announced in conjunction with the poll.
- The Mavs will open their season playing eight games in California next week. They will play a doubleheader at Azusa Pacific next Wednesday (Feb. 4) before playing six times during the D2 West Coast Challenge over the weekend (Feb. 6-8) in Lake Elsinore.
- Three of the Mavs opponents that weekend are ranked in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Mavs first home games will be on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 against MSU Denver.

Men's Lacrosse
- The RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll is slated to be released on Wednesday.
- The Mavericks were picked 15th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine's Division II Preseason Top 20.
- The Mavs open their season (Full Schedule) on Sunday, Feb. 8 with a neutral-site contest against Rockhurst at Adams State in Alamosa.
- CMU went 13-4 in 2025 and won the Rocky Mountain Division Regular Season and Tournament titles before going on to win the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title to secure what was the Mavs' second appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Mavs' first home game will be on Mar. 5 against Florida Southern.
Women's Lacrosse
- The RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll is slated to be released on Thursday
- The Mavericks were listed in the "also considered" section of the USA Lacrosse Magazine's Division II Preseason Top 20.
- The Mavs are coming off the 2025 season that saw them win a share of the RMAC title with a 9-1 conference record before advancing to the RMAC Tournament Championship game for the fourth straight year.
- They were 11-6 overall last year.
- The Mavs will open their season with a 3-game trip to Florida, where they will face a trio of teams ranked in the IWLCA Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Mavs will take on Missouri Western State on Feb. 22 in their home opener.
