Mavs sweep RMAC Swim/Dive honors

Guth, Hurley, Roethlisberger, Qunell honored for UNLV Invite, Denver/Wyoming double dual efforts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University swimming and diving team once again swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, announced by the conference office on Thursday.

The Mavs have now won 19 total honors in 20 of their opportunities this season, sweeping the awards on four separate occasions (Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 25).

This week's award winners included Guillaume Guth (men's swimmer), Jenna Hurley (women's diver), Ada Qunell (women's swimmer) and David Roethlisberger (men's diver).

The men's awards were based on all RMAC action this month, which included CMU's double dual against Division I Denver and Wyoming last Saturday.  The women's awards were based on all RMAC action since the last awards were bestowed on Dec. 11.  For CMU, that included both the Dec. 15-17 UNLV Invitational and this past Saturday's meet.

Guth has now four RMAC Swimmer of the Week accolades this season.   The 2024 Paris Olympian for his native France recorded three wins and a second place finish in Saturday's double dual in Denver, helping lead the Mavs to a team victory over the host Pioneers, 152 ½-147 ½.  He won both the 100 Free and 200 Free with altitude-adjusted times of 44.15 and 1:35.30.  He also helped the Mavs win the 400 Free Relay in 2:56.32 at the end of the meet, posting a 43.36-second lead-off split.

Roethlisberger, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia, received his second RMAC Diver of the Week honor after claiming his first on Oct. 30.  He won the 1-meter event in Saturday's double dual with a career-best score of 324.30 points, which far surpassed the NCAA Pre-Championship Qualification meet standard of 290.  He defeated seven NCAA Division I opponents.

Hurley, a junior out of Southlake, Texas is receiving her first RMAC Diver of the Week honor this season and the sixth of her career.

At the UNLV meet, she advanced to the championship final in both the 1 and 3-meer events, taking second on the 3-meter with 265.60 points and eighth on the 1-meter with 237.85 points.  In the process, she scored 28 team points as the Mavs finished third in the 7-team meet, beating three Division I squads in Cal Baptist, Pacific and Wyoming.

Her 3-meter score was a season-best and secured her trip to the NCAA Pre-Championship Qualification meet.  She defeated nine Division I foes and six teammates in that 16-woman field in that event.

Qunell has now received back-to-back Women's Swimmer of the Week honors after picking up the Nov. 25 award following the TYR/CMU Invitational.
At UNLV, the senior from Whitefish, Montana, advanced to the championship final in three events and set a career-best and NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time in the "B" Final of the 500 Free.  She also helped the Mavs win the 200 Medley Relay.

She then continued her strong form at this past Saturday's double dual, recording second place finishes in all four of her individual events.

She and he relay teammates eclipsed the NCAA qualifying standard 12 times during the two meets.

She continues to lead the RMAC in three individual events (100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Fly) and all five relay events while ranking second in the 50 Free.

The Mavs will continue their season with another double-dual this weekend.  The Mavs will be in Provo, Utah to face host BYU and Air Force on Friday and Saturday.
