Mavs claim seventh straight RMAC crowns

Naskret turns in fastest altitude-adjusted time in NCAA history

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Kings and Queens of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference were once again crowned on Saturday as the Maverick swimming & diving teams claimed their seventh consecutive conference team-title sweep on Saturday night at the El Pomar Natatorium.

With comfortable leads built up throughout the 5-day meet, the Mavericks capped the meet by winning five more events on the final day, including two with new meet record times, finishing the week with 27 gold and 62 total medals from the 42 events contested.

The Mavericks also swept all ten relay events for the second straight year and capped a 4-for-4 diving sweep for the fourth straight season.

In a new 24-person scoring format, the CMU women finished with a championship record 1,934 points, 745 ahead of Simon Fraser, which finished with 1,194 to hold off the Colorado School of Mines (1,156 ½) and Western Colorado (1,010).

The nation's top-ranked Maverick women claimed a pair of event wins on the final day as Agata Naskret smashed her own RMAC Championship and El Pomar Natatorium records in the 200-yard backstroke before leading off the Mavs' RMAC Championship record-setting 400 freestyle relay team to finish the team title.

CMU won 14 of the 21 women's events throughout the meet.

Meanwhile, the CMU men, ranked second in the Division II Swimcloud Rankings, received wins from Kuba Kiszczak in the 100 free, Wyatt Hermanson in the 1-meter diving event and from the 400 free relay winning team of Richard Schmiedefeld, Jameson McEnaney, Kiszczak and Austin Patterson.

They finished the meet with 1,104 points, nearly 300 ahead of second-place Mines (816 ½) to claim their ninth overall RMAC title.

The CMU men won 13 events throughout the meet.

Although, the team titles were the story of the night, Naskret was the star of the Maverick show crushing a time of 1:55.17 in the 200 back, a time that was 2.1 seconds better than her 2024 RMAC Championship and pool record mark of 1:57.27.  Her new time also bested her school-record time of 1:55.30, which she used to win the 2024 NCAA Division II title, one of five she won a year ago.

Even more impressively, Naskret's time now ranks her fourth in Division II history even without the altitude-adjustment, which will lower her mark to 1:53.97 on this year's national performance list and the Mavs' school record board. That altitude-adjusted time is more than a half-second under the current national record of 1:54.48 but will not officially go down in the national record book, which does not consider altitude adjustments.

Meanwhile, Naskret then combined with Elli Williams, Kendyll Wilkinson and Ada Qunell to set a new RMAC Championship record of 3:21.41, lowering the mark of 3:21.63 from a year ago.

Naskret won six gold and one silver medal throughout the 2025 meet and set new RMAC records in six different disciplines, including three individual events and three relays.

Kiszczak, who like Naskret, hails from Poland, won five events throughout the meet, completing a 100/200 free double with a career-best time of 44.72 seconds (44.62-converted).  In the process, he led a 1-2-3 Maverick sweep as Patterson finished just a single one hundredth of a second back in a career-best of 44.73 seconds (44.63-converted).  McEnaney took the bronze in 44.93 seconds.

Kiszczak scored 69 points in his four individual events, second most in the men's meet, trailing only Simon Fraser's Marcus Mak, who won three individual events to claim RMAC Men's Swimmer of the Meet plaudits with 76 points.

The Mav men also went 1-2-3 in the diving well as Wyatt Hermanson claimed the win with 574.70 points, besting teammates Jax Juarros (563.75) and Ryan Campbell (542.45).  In the process, Hermanson claimed a share of RMAC Men's Diver of the Meet honors, sharing the honor with Campbell, who had won Thursday's 3-meter event.  Both men scored 36 team points while Juarros added 34 with second place finishes on both boards.

Minutes later, the 400 relay team won in 2:56.38, more than two seconds quicker than Mines.

The Mavericks also turned in several other solid performances throughout the night as Olivia Hansson took second in the 1,650 free with a time of 17:00.77, just 2.21 seconds off her own school record.  Simon Fraser standout Tori Meklensek, named as the RMAC Women's Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year after winning the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events.

Meanwhile, Hanna Sasivarevic moved into second place in CMU history with a fifth place time of 17:09.29 (16:49.29-converted) while Sydnee O'Neil took sixth in 17:14.92, moving into third place on CMU's all-time charts with the altitude-adjusted mark of 16:54.92.

Jacob Troescher also claimed the silver in the men's 1650 with a time of 15:52.22 while Gavin Anderson claimed a seventh place finish in 16:08.83.

Wilkinson then took second in the women's 100 free, finishing in a career-best 50.77 seconds.  Elli Williams also tallied a season-best of 51.25 seconds (51.15-converted) after leading at the half-way point.

The Maverick women had three of the top four and four finalists in the 200 back as Katerina Matoskova finished third with a season-best time of 1:58.38 while Sophia Bains took fourth in a career-best 2:01.85.  Bains had won the 200 and 400 individual medley titles earlier in the meet and led all CMU women with 109 team points, finishing third in the high point award chase.

Freshman Taylar Hooton also swam in the final, placing seventh in 2:05.73.

The CMU men also had four finalists in the 200 back as Luka Samsonov took second in 1:46.81 while Schmiedefeld finished fourth in 1:48.45. Veteran Jackson Moe was fifth in 1:48.55 while Andrew Scoggin, the winner of the 100 back on Friday, finished sixth in 1:48.93.

CMU also claimed a bronze medal in the women's 200 breaststroke as Antonia Leese touched in 2:20.58   She had won the 100 breast on Friday night.

Jason McMechan then duplicated the bronze-medal winning effort in the men's half of the event, touching in 2:02.79 while Max Ayres finished sixth in 2:04.98.

CMU women's diver Kenya Meyer also officially received her RMAC Women's Diver of the Meet honor after the meet.  She won on both boards earlier in the meet, smashing a RMAC and her own school and pool record on the 3-meter springboard on Friday.
