GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's and women's tennis teams will get the team portion of their season underway this weekend, competing in a combined six match-ups during this weekend's Pueblo Duals at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
The Maverick women will play in four matches, two on Friday and two on Saturday, while the Maverick men will play twice on Friday in their only two team duals of the fall season.
The men will take on Lubbock Christian at 8:30 a.m. and Pratt Community College four hours later at 12:30 p.m.
The women will face Nebraska-Kearney at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Dallas Baptist that afternoon at 4:30. The Mavs will then take on Lubbock Christian on Saturday morning at 8:30 before facing Fort Hays State in the afternoon at 12:30.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks were also on Colorado's Front Range last Saturday and Sunday, playing in the Colorado College Invitational at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. The 2-day tournament was cut short by rain on Sunday but not before the Mavericks enjoyed plenty of success while more importantly getting match time against other squads in preparation for this weekend.
Veterans
Julianna Campos,
Issy Coman,
Makenna Livingston and freshman
Devyn Rodriguez led the Maverick women in the "A" singles draw that saw Coman reach the semifinals of the main draw. She and Livingston also won their lone "A" doubles match and were in the semifinals, which were unable to be played due to the rain. The same was true for Rodriguez and
Julianna Campos.
Meanwhile, sophomore
Emil Hultman and freshman
Axel Scholl both went undefeated in singles play to lead the Maverick men. Hultman won both of his "B" singles matches and was in the unplayed final while Scholl went 3-0 to win the "C" singles draw. Hultman and
Jorge Abreu also won their lone "B" doubles match and were in the semifinals of that draw.
William Leschig and
Henry Scheck also reached the unplayed final of the "A" doubles draw after winning both of their matches.
