Mavs win doubles point in season finale

Scheck/Leschig end career with national ranking win

HONOLULU, Hawai'i— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team capped the 2025-26 season with a pair of doubles wins but dropped the four completed the singles matches in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions on Monday here at the University of Hawai'i's Tennis Courts.
 
Seniors Henry Scheck and William Leschig provided the doubles point clincher at No. 1 as they claimed a 7-5 win in a battle of nationally-ranked duos.  Scheck and Leschig, who are ranked 16th in the latest ITA NCAA Division II Rankings, finished the year with an 17-10 record, including a 13-8 mark in the top flight of team duals.
 
On Monday, they bested the Sea Lions' Finn Kirschner and Stanislas Noel, who are ranked 43rd in the country.
 
Scheck and Leschig went 3-2 against other nationally-ranked pairs this spring.
 
Sophomore Luke Burriesci and senior Jamison Pfingston were also 6-3 winners over Leo Bormann and Rhyson Chiang at No. 3 doubles as Pfingston ends his Maverick career on a high note.
 
In singles, Scheck won the first set of his No. 1 encounter with Noel by a 6-3 margin before the Sea Lion won the second set by the same margin. The third set was left unfinished as Point Loma clinched the dual with wins at No. 3-6 singles.
 
Diogo Manzano, another one of the Mavs' five seniors in the lineup, also won the second set of his No. 2 singles match against David Fisinger.  That match was also left unfinished in the third set.
 
The Sea Lions won the other four singles matches in straight sets as Emil Hultman saw his 19-11 senior season come to an end with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Finn Krischner at No. 3 singles.  The Swede's 19 wins were the most of any Maverick in 11 years.
 
Leschig also won 16  times in singles in his final collegiate season and led the team with 33 overall wins.  He dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles on Monday after teaming with Scheck for the key doubles win.  That victory was Leschig's 50th doubles win of his career.
 
He finishes his time as a Maverick with 96 total wins, one more than Scheck.  Hultman had 93 career wins.
 
The Mavericks finish the season with a 6-16 record.
 
The Sea Lions improved to 6-10 win the win.
