Football
  • The Mavs (2-3, 1-2 RMAC) retained the Nykios Cup, defeating the Colorado School of Mines for the second straight year on Saturday in Golden.
  • The 28-24 victory was the 500th in program history.
  • Brandon Belgrave caught a 13-yard touchdown pass on a 4th-and-3 play from the Mines 13-yard line with 11 seconds remaining in the game to give the Mavs the win.
  • Belgrave also ran for 209 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.
  • CMU posted 369 rushing yards in total.
  • Jake Sinz made 13 tackles to lead the Maverick defense while Kash Bradley added eight, including five solos.
  • The Mavs trailed 14-3 early in the second quarter before rallying to tie the game at 21 on Belgrave's second touchdown run with 12:56 remaining.  Mines then kicked a field goal with 1:56 left to take a 24-21 lead before the Mavs marched 75 yards on 12 plays to win the game.
  • After playing back-to-back road games, the Mavericks have returned home to take on winless Adams (0-5, 0-3 RMAC), which has been outscored 186-20 in the last four games this Saturday at 6 p.m.
Women's Soccer
  • The Mavericks, ranked 22nd in last week's national poll, posted their fourth straight win and third straight shutout on Sunday, celebrating Senior Day with a 4-0 home win over Western Colorado.
  • The Mavs honored seven seniors following the game.
  • The Mavericks (7-2, 3-0 RMAC) also started a Friday twilight game at Fort Lewis in Durango but were thwarted by lightning delays, which forced a postponement in the 12th minute.
  • The schools will work together to plan a make-up date.
  • Parker Mairs, Kylie Wells, Olivia Bariao-Arce and Ellie Duncan all scored in Sunday's victory that saw the Mavs outshoot Western, 26-10.
  • Keely Wieczorek made seven saves to record her RMAC-leading sixth shutout of the season, all of which have come at home.
  • Wells leads the RMAC with eight goals this season.
  • The Mavs nave now won 12 straight games over Western.
  • CMU is now 6-0 at home this season and have not conceded a single home goal.  They are unbeaten in their last 14 home games (13-0-1) over the past two seasons.
  • The Mavericks will remain at home this week for one game, hosting Black Hills State, currently 4-4-2 (1-3 RMAC) on Sunday at 11 a.m. in their First Responders Game.
Men's Soccer
  • The Mavs (3-4-2, 0-1-1 RMAC) started RMAC play last week, falling 2-1 at UCCS on Thursday night before battling for a 3-3 draw against No. 7 and undefeated CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon.
  • Cain Castellon scored his first goal as a Maverick in the 76th minute of Thursday's game to level the score at 1-1 before UCCS got the game winner just two minutes later.
  • Nathan Hernandez and Hayes Malone scored goals just 41 seconds apart in the fourth minute of Sunday's game at CSU Pueblo to give the Mavs a 2-0 lead.  The ThunderWolves then rallied to take a 3-2 lead before Manuel Ponce Casas scored the equalizer in the 64th minute. 
  • Hernandez also assisted on Malone's and Castellon's goals to now sit atop the team scoring charts with four goals and eleven offensive points.
  • The Mavs will try to snap a 3-game winless streak when they host their first home RMAC contests this weekend.
  • CMU will play Adams State, a team they beat 5-0 on Sept. 24 in Alamosa, this Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Fort Lewis, ranked 15th in last week's national rankings, on Sunday at 2 p.m. in their First Responders Game.
Volleyball
  • The Mavericks (9-4, 3-1 RMAC) wrapped up a 4-match, 8-day homestand with two wins last week.  They swept Western Colorado on Tuesday night and then claimed a 4-set win over Westminster on Friday night.  Both matches were in RMAC Regional Pod play and did not count for the RMAC standings.
  • CMU was ranked 25th in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II/TARAFLEX Poll and have now been ranked in 46 consecutive national polls since early in 2022.  New rankings are due out Monday afternoon.
  • In Tuesday's win, Sadie Scoville and Henley Madsen both hit .526 and combined for 25 of CMU's 45 kills.  The Mavericks held the Mountaineers to just 20.
  • Emma Luce then matched her season and career-high with 15 kills in Friday's win over Westminster.  Madsen added 11.
  • Addison Wright recorded a career-high 25 dis and four aces in Friday's win as the Mavs recorded 12 aces, CMU's highest single-match total since 2022.
  • The Mavericks will return to RMAC matches on the road this week, playing Western in Gunnison on Friday at 3 p.m. before taking on Fort Lewis in Durango on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Durango.
  • The Mavs lead the RMAC statistics in hitting percentage (.259) and hitting percentage defense (.157).
Swimming & Diving ​​​​​​Triathlon  Cross Country
  • The Mavs have been off for the past two weekends but will resume their season this Saturday at the Lewis Crossover Invitational in Romeoville, Illinois.
  • The meet will be key to the NCAA Championship at-large selection process and will give CMU their lone chance at racking up wins against teams from other regions.
  • The Maverick women were ranked 25th in last week's USTFCCCCA National Poll.  A new poll is slated for release on Wednesday.
Men's Golf Women's Golf
  • The Maverick women were off last week but will resume their season next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 13-14) at the West Region Preview hosted by CSU Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club.
  • Payton Panzeri has the Mavs' best scoring average (75.67) and head-to-head winning percentage (.810) through three tournaments.  Fellow senior Anju Ogi is right behind with a 76.83 scoring average.
