LAKEWOOD, Colo.— Sophomore
Zack Moreau posted the best round of his collegiate career, a 1-under par 71 to lead a contingent of Colorado Mesa University golfers in the first round of the Bob Writz Invitational on Sunday here at Bear Creek Golf Club.
The Costa Mesa, California native got off to a 2-over start through six holes but birdied the seventh and eighth holes while adding another birdie on No. 12 during a clean round that has him in a tie for fourth place in the field heading into Monday's second and final round.
Moreau was one of just five men in the field to go under par throughout the day, which saw challenging wind conditions and colder temperatures late in the round.

Jacob Gonzalez is in a tie for 14
th after recording a 76 (+4) while
Noah Richmond is just one stroke further back at 77 (+5) and tied for 16
th.
Baptiste Laborde is tied for 19
th at 78 (+6) while
Ky Korte is tied for 27
th at 80 (+8).
Inigo Badial is tied for 30
th at 85 (+13).
Colorado's Michael Fang leads the tournament by three shots after signing for a 66 (-6) while three members of the host Colorado School of Mines squad also went under par.
No team scores are being kept.
Monday's second round will begin at 9 a.m. with tee times off both the first and tenth holes.
