PUEBLO, Colo.— Hannah Schissler won the 200 meters while
Kammi Merritt broke the Colorado Mesa University record in the 400-meter hurdles before teaming up on both of the Mavericks' runner-up relay teams during a fine day of performances and finishes at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Maverick women recorded six medal-winning appearances in Sunday's portion of the meet and ended up in second place of the team standings, matching their best finish ever.
CMU scored 107 1/3 points throughout the meet, including 86 1/3 on the final day alone as they scored in all 15 of the day's events.
Merritt and Schissler teamed with
Genesis Nehmer and
Sylvia Johansen to start the day's track events with a second place time of 45.99 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. That NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time is tied for tenth fastest in program history.
Schissler than took third in the 100 meters with a career-best time of 11.75 seconds while Johansen took sixth in a season-best of 12.05. Merritt also scored a point with an eighth place time of 12.09.
Merritt then came back to take second in the 400-meter hurdles, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 58.89 seconds, nearly a full second better than McKenna Molder's 5-year old program record of 59.84.
Meanwhile,
Olivia Langner took fifth in that event with a career-best of 1:01.55 as she moved up to third In program history.
Jessie Schaffer also had a career-best time of 1:02.82 to finish seventh.
Later, Schissler won the 200 meters in a wind-aided NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.96 seconds.
At the end of the meet, Schissler,
Elaina Arcand,
Cami Costello and Merritt then ran to a second place time of 3:49.28 in the 4x400-meter relay, third fastest in program history.
The Mavs also scored in all five of the other running and all five of the field events throughout the day.
Arcand took sixth in the 400 with a time of 57.18 seconds before
Brooke Miller took fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:14.15.
Megan Hodges also finished fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:38.21 while
Jordan Staniszewski finished sixth in the 5,000 with a time of 17:51.04.
The Mavs also picked up five team points in the 100-meter hurdles as
Kaitlyn Pearson finished sixth in 14.71 seconds while
Atahlia Mills took seventh in a season-best time of 14.75.
In the field,
Kendra Ritzmann claimed the bronze medal in the javelin throw with a career-best mark of 41.52 meters (136-2).
Kaiya Graves was seventh at 38.92 meters (127-8).
Ritzman also finished fifth in the triple jump, recording a career-best of 11.66 meters (38-3.25)
The Mavs also picked up a fifth place hammer throw finish from
Augustine Hancock, who recorded a throw of 49.41 meters (162-1). Teammate
Aaliyah Bos also reached the finals and placed ninth with a career-best of 46.79 meters, three meters than her former best, to move up three spots to fifth in program history.
In the high jump,
Kaelea Gibson was part of a 3-way tie for eighth with a mark of 1.57 meters (5-1.75).
Freshman
Taiya Carl also took eighth in the pole vault, clearing 3.57 meters (11-8.5) as she moved up two spots to second in program history.
The Maverick men also had an impressive third ay as Teo Casados won the 100 and 200 to help lead the Mavs to a third place team finish.
