PUEBLO, Colo.— Kylie Mayer claimed the bronze medal in the discus throw while
Kaiya Graves and
Addy Kirkpatrick claimed fourth place finishes to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's track & field team to 21 team points on Day 2 of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday here at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
The Mavs also picked up a fifth place finish from
Kaitlyn Pearson in the heptathlon, an eighth place time from
Shirley Weaver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and qualified 12 combined runners for Sunday's finals in the seven events that had preliminary rounds on Saturday.
They are in fourth place in the team standings with six of the 21 events in the books.
Mayer had a career-best throw of 44.02 meters (144-5) to finish third in the discus while Graves, CMU's record holder in the event, took fourth at 43.29 meters (142-0).
Meanwhile, Kirkpatrick turned in an impressive wind-aided long jump mark of 5.74 meters (18-10).
Pearson scored 4,727 points in the heptathlon, good for a 208-point improvement over her 2025 RMAC Championship effort and former personal best. Her NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying effort, included season-best marks in the long jump (5.49 meters/18-0.25) and 800 meters (2:23.27) on Saturday.
The Mavs' other team point came from Weaver, who finished the steeplechase in 11:10.83 just nine days after setting the CMU school record of 10:52.42 at sea level in Azusa, California.
The Mavs also had some good efforts in the 10,000 meters.
Autumn McQuitty had a season-best time of 38:00.42 to finish ninth while the other three Mavericks in the event all set new career-bests.
Lauren Hodges finished tenth in 38:16.94 to move up two spots to seventh in program history.
Daisy Lalonde, who used to sit seventh, also had a season-best of 38:39.55 to finish 14
th while
Kate Linstedt finished 16
th in 38:41.73, 1.75 seconds faster than her 2025 RMAC Championship and former career-best time.
In the sprints, the Mavs qualified three runners for the 100-meter finals.
Hannah Schissler finished fourth overall in 11.87 seconds while
Kammi Merritt took seventh in the preliminary round with a wind-aided career-best of 11.91. Sylvia Johnansen also squeaked into the finals with a ninth place time of 12.05.
Schissler also won her heat of the 200 in 24.40 seconds.
In the 400,
Elaina Arcand won her heat to qualify third in 57.95 seconds.
Waycee Harvey also had a season-best of 58.40 seconds to finish tenth.
In the 800,
Brooke Miller safely qualified for the finals with a time of 2:16.03 while
Megan Hodges advanced in the 1,500 with a preliminary round effort of 4:38.26.
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Atahlia Mills had a season best time of 14.67 seconds to qualify sixth while Pearson took seventh overall in 15.01 seconds.
Jessie Schaffer also had a season-best of 15.21 seconds to finish tenth.
Merritt,
Olivia Langner and Schaffer all set career-bests in the 400-meter hurdles.
Merritt won her heat in 1:00.00, nearly a full second below her pervious best, to qualify second. Langner finished nearly a half-second quicker than she had ever run before, qualifying sixth in 1:02.25 while Schaffer was right behind in 1:02.77, substantially improving upon her former career best of 1:03.60.
The Maverick men are also in fourth place of the team standings heading into Sunday's third and final day.
