GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Ten of Colorado Mesa University's higher-echelon distance runners will be in Azusa, California this weekend competing in the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Mavericks will look to use a rare opportunity to race at sea-level in their attempts to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division II and/or Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
The massive-sized meet at Azusa Pacific University's Cougar Stadium begins Thursday and will run through Saturday evening.

Last Times Out
The Mavericks had partial squads at a pair of meets hosted by the Colorado School of Mines last week.
A group of sprinters, hurdlers, field and multi-eventers competed at the Mines Midweek & Multi, contested last Wednesday and Thursday.
Three Maverick freshmen in
Blake Ames,
Jordan Fraser and
Cami Costello all put up marks on the Mavs' all-time top 10 lists during Wednesday's portion before
Asa Keim and
Kaitlyn Pearson wrapped up the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon on Thursday with strong performances that easily qualified them for the upcoming RMAC Championships.
On Saturday, the distance runners and a few more field-eventers competed at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic.
Autumn McQuitty won the 10K while four other Mavericks in
Taiya Carl,
Daisy Lalonde,
Kate Linstedt and
Dominick Muller set new top 10 marks.
NCAA Lists
Thus far, the Mavericks have now combined to set 13 NCAA Championship provisional qualifying marks, including three that put the Mavs in the top ten of country and seven that put the Mavs inside the current NCAA selection window.
Here's a look at all of the Mavs' current national rankings. The top 22 declared athletes in each individual event will earn NCAA selection for the May 21-23 meet in Emporia, Kansas. The top 16 relay teams in each event will also be selected as will the top 16 declared men's decathletes and women's heptathletes.

The Mavericks are ranked amongst the nation's top ten teams in six different disciplines
in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's #EventSquad rankings, which are calculated by adding the marks from a team's top four performers in each individual events.
The Maverick men rank second in Division II for the triple jump with a combined total of 57.91 meters and an average of 14.48 meters. They are ranked fifth in the long jump with a total of 28.64 meters and an average of 7.16 meters.
The Mavericks also rank fourth in the women's 10,000 meters with an average time of 37:26.98 and are seventh in the 5,000 with an average of 17:12.91.
They also rank ninth in the discus throw with an average of 47.30 meters and are tenth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 4-person combined time of 4:11.98, an average of 1:02.99.
RMAC Leaders
The Mavericks have four individual athletes who lead the RMAC performance lists thus far in 2026 and also pace the conference in the men's 4x100-meter relay.
