GOLDEN, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University track & field freshmen
Jordan Fraser,
Blake Ames and
Cami Costello all set marks that put them in the top ten of the Mavericks' all-time performers lists, highlighting the day for a partial Maverick squad at the Mines Midweek & Multi Meet on Wednesday here at the Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Track & Crouch Field Event Complex.
The meet was a late addition to the schedule as teams gathered to try to take advantage of more favorable weather conditions than the originally planned Friday and Saturday Kit Mayer Classic is slated to provide.
However, the Mavericks will also send a separate partial squad to the weekend meet, which now features an abbreviated Saturday only schedule, mostly in the distance running events.
Only 16 events in the sprints, hurdles and field, were contested during Wednesday's portion of the midweek meet, which will continue with the second day of the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon disciplines on Thursday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Maverick sophomore
Kaitlyn Pearson is in fourth place of the 15-woman heptathlon field with 2,691 points while
Asa Keim, making his decathlon debut, is in seventh place of the 14-man field with 3,101 points through five events.
Fraser finished with a time of 48.65 seconds in the 400 meters on Wednesday, placing sixth out of 24 starters and moved up a spot to third in program history.
Meanwhile, Ames took fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.28 seconds and moved up two spots to fifth in CMU history.
Costello won her heat of the women's 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.21 and now ranks eighth in program history for that discipline.
