GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's golf team will look to make program history when they tee it up at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, which begin Sunday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
The Mavericks, who have made six straight appearances in the NCAA Super Regional Tournaments, will be in search of their first team title as they join the other six teams in the conference in the 54-hole, 3-day tournament that runs through Tuesday.
Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. PDT (10:30 a.m. Mountain) on Sunday although the Mavericks will not begin for 72 minutes later and play in the final six groups of the opening round.

The tournament will be contested in a play six, score four format where the top four players in each round will contribute to the team's score for that round.
Individual standings for the 42-man field will also be kept.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks last played at the Palm Valley Classic on Apr. 6-7 in Goodyear, Arizona. They finished that 20-team tournament in a tie for fourth place.
The Mavs posted a 54-hole team score of 842, their best of the spring season and had their best single round of the spring in the third and final round, posting a 10-under par score of 278 in the third round on Tuesday, April 7 after recording 2-under par totals of 282 in both of the Monday, April 6 rounds.
Leo Lavalle led the Mavs' impressive play, tying for fifth place in the 108-man field. He finished at 206 (-10) and posted three under par rounds, including a 66 in the second.
Luke Wagstaff and
Timmy Cavarno also ended under par as Wagstaff tied for 22
nd at 211 (+5) with rounds of 71, 71 and 69. Cavarno also broke par in all three rounds and tied for 28
th at 212 (-4).

Baptiste Laborde.
Four of those men were also a part of CMU's RMAC Championship roster in 2025.
Laborde led the Mavs at last year's conference tournament, tying for seventh with a 54-hole total of 209 (-7). Cavarno and Everett also tied for 15
th at 213 (-3) while Wagstaff tied for 21
st with a 54-hole total of 217 (+1).
In the Rankings
The Mavericks are ranked 22
nd in the country according to both the
SCOREBOARD NCAA Division II rankings and the latest edition of the
Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, which was released on Friday.
The Mavs had been ranked 14
th in the previous edition of the poll, released on Mar. 27.
They are one of three RMAC teams in the top 25 of the poll with CSU Pueblo sitting in a tie for 16
th while Colorado Christian is ranked 25
th.
CSU Pueblo leads the RMAC with a No. 13 ranking the SCOREBOARD rankings. Colorado Christian is 24
th. The Colorado School of Mines is ranked 25
th.
Individually, Leo Lavalle is ranked 67th in the nation while Dylan Everett is 93rd.
Regional Rankings
The Mavericks are also ranked sixth in
the latest NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings, announced on Apr. 10. Those rankings will eventually help determine the field for the upcoming South Central/West Super Regional. Ten teams from the region will eventually be selected with the winners of the RMAC and Lone Star Conference Tournaments earning automatic spots.
CSU Pueblo leads the regional rankings while Colorado Christian is ranked ninth. The Colorado School of Mines is just outside the top 10 in 11
th.
The Mavs were the only RMAC team inside the top five ahead of LSC foes St. Mary's, Dallas Baptist, West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin. CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian, who sat sixth and ninth, were the only other two RMAC teams in the top 10. The Colorado School of Miens was listed 11
th.
Course Familiarity
The Mavericks are quite familiar with and have had some strong performances at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. T
hey finished third in a loaded and elite 20-team field at the start of the spring, where they posted a 54-hole score of 860 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
They also finished third at last year's RMAC Championships, where they posted a team score of 846, their second best of the entire 2024-25 season.

The Mavs will look to be selected for the NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regional, which will be played on May 7-9 in Stockton, California. Selections will be announced next Sunday (Apr. 26).
