Mavs earn top 10 finish at Sam Proal Invite

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University men's golf team finished in a tie for 10th place this afternoon as they concluded day two action at the Sam Proal Invite here at the Pueblo Country Club.

The Mavericks tied with Westminster University and Colorado School of Mines' B Team for the 10th place standing with all three schools finishing at 882 (+30).

Colorado Mesa had a team score of 295 as well in today's third round which was one stroke better than yesterday's round two score of 296.

A total of 16 schools and 18 teams competed in the tournament with there being six schools from the RMAC and 11 from the South Central Region.

There were also 102 individuals comprising those schools.

The Mavs were led in the tournament by individual Baptiste Laborde who took home a top 20 finish while shooting 1-over. He shot an even 71 in today's round while accumulating four birdies.

Laborde had two even-par rounds during the two-day tournament while shooting one-over in the other round as he finished in a tie for 16th of the individual standings.

Leo Lavalle was the Mavs' second-best performer as he took home a top 30 finish while shooting even today as he was 5-over for the tournament. He improved 11 spots after yesterday with him finishing in a tie for 28th place.

Jacob Gonzales shot 73 to finish his tournament in 31st place at 6-over while Luke Wagstaff and Timmy Cavarno both came up behind him in 35th place with each of them sitting at 7-over.

Wagstaff was playing as an individual like Laborde, with Inigo Badial being the team's final individual and shooting a 72 today to finish 9-over for the tournament.

Henry Starr added a 6-over 77 today with Dylan Everett competing as well and shooting an 82.

Colorado Christian won the team event with them shooting 841 (-11) and owning an eight-stroke advantage over second place and host of the tournament, CSU Pueblo.

Colorado Christian's Peyton Jones was the individual champion shooting 10-under and owning three under-par rounds. He narrowly beat out CSU Pueblo's Marius Dosiere who shot nine-under for second place.

The Mavs will continue their spring when they head Goodyear, Arizona on April 6 (Mon.) and 7 (Tues.) next for the 2026 RJGA Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Course.
