GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Ranked 12
th in a nation after an impressive effort in their last tournament, the Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's golf team will resume their spring campaign playing at Cal State San Bernardino's Coyote Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
The Mavericks headline a field of 13 teams from 12 schools that will play 54 holes at the
Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, California.
Monday's portion of the tournament will feature 36 holes, starting with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PDF (9 a.m. Mountain). A single 18-hole round will be played on Tuesday, starting at the same time.

The tournament begins a stretch of three straight weeks that the Mavs will compete in the lead-up to the RMAC, regional and national championships.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks turned in a fine third place performance in an elite 20-team field in the Las Vegas Desert Classic, earlier this month (Mar. 2-3) at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada
The Mavs beat three teams ranked inside the top 10 and eight inside the top 25 of the SCOREBOARD Powered by clippd NCAA Division II rankings at the time.
The tournament was also a chance for the Mavericks to preview the course that will be used for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II National Championships.
The Mavs also had three players finish in the top 20 of the individual standings with
Dylan Everett tying for ninth with a 54-hole, 3-day score of 213 (-3). He had two rounds of 3-under par 69.
Leo Lavalle also fared well, tying for 11
th at 214 (-2) after recording rounds of 70 and 71 on the final two days.
Freshman
Jacob Gonzalez finished in a tie for 18
th at 217 (+1) and also had rounds of 70 and 71.
Lineup Look
The Mavericks will have seven players in the tournament. The team lineup includes
Leo Lavalle,
Dylan Everett,
Timmy Cavarno,
Jacob Gonzalez and
Luke Wagstaff, the same lineup that Head Coach
Scott Sullivan has used in the first two tournaments of the spring.
Henry Starr and
Baptiste Laborde will play as individuals.
In the polls
After their performance at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, the Mavericks moved up to 12
th in both the
Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll and the
SCOREBOARD national rankings. The Mavs are tied with Nova Southeastern in the poll, last released on Mar. 6.
The Mavs were ranked 19
th in the SCOREBOARD rankings going into their previous tournament and had ended the fall season ranked 14
th in the Bushnell/Golfweek Poll. A new poll will be distributed on Friday (Mar. 27).

Individual Rankings
The Mavs also have two individuals sitting amongst the top 50 of the nation in the SCOREBOARD rankings. Sophomore
Leo Lavalle sits 37
th while
Dylan Everett is 46
th in the most recent rankings.
RMAC Honors
After leading all RMAC players at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, CMU junior
Dylan Everett was named as the
RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Mar. 10.
The award is his second of the 2025-26 season and marks the fourth that the Mavs have won this campaign. Everett also won the initial honor of the season on Sept 18 before
Timmy Cavarno and
Leo Lavalle were honored on Sept. 25 and Oct. 16, respectively.
The Mavs are the only team with multiple honorees this season.
Look at the Field
The Mavs are the first of three teams ranked amongst the field for this week's tournament, which includes 11 "A" squads from NCAA Division II squads. NAIA La Sierra will also play while Cal State Dominguez Hills will also field a "B" team.
The Mavericks and Fort Lewis are the only two RMAC and NCAA South Central Region teams in the field. The host Coyotes are one of nine NCAA West Region squads. They are ranked 45
th in the national SCOREBOARD rankings while Chico State is tabbed 38
th.
CSU Monterey Bay and Chico State are in the "others receiving votes" category of the Bushnell/Golfweek Poll.
