Mavs win three events, stand third at UNLV Invite

Nagy, Sampson, Women's 400 Medley relay all claim Sunday wins

LAS VEGAS— Benedict Nagy, Ben Sampson and the women's 400-yard medley relay team all claimed event wins as the Colorado Mesa University swimming and diving teams both sit in third place after Sunday's portion of the UNLV Invitational.

Nagy and Sampson, the NCAA Division II leaders in the 200-yard individual medleys swept those wins before Nagy combined with Agata Naskret, Kiara Borchardt and Ada Qunell to win the relay as the Maverick women scored 202 team points through six events.

CMU's men scored 221.

The host Rebels lead the way in both sets of team standings with 358 ½ women's points and 340 points on the men's side.  Hawai'i is second. with 277 ½ women's points and 238 men's points.

The Mavs are the only Division II squad in the field, which also includes Division I squads Arizona, Cal Baptist, New Mexico, Pacific and Seattle.

The Mavericks got the day off to a solid start qualifying seven swimmers (4 women, 3 men) for the championship finals in the morning swimming diving preliminary sessions.  They also had nine (6 men, 3 women) other consolation final qualifiers in the six (3 men's, 3 women's) individual swimming events that were contested throughout the day.

All six Maverick divers in action also contributed to the team scoring haul.
