2023-24 (As a Freshman): Competed in all ten meets of the regular season… Set personal-best altitude-adjusted times of 51.67 and 1:52.54 in the 100 Back and 200 Fly, respectively at the RMAC Championships… Was competing as an exhibition athlete… Had personal-best times of 21.57 (50 Free) and 46.85 (100 Free) at the UNLV Invitational… Had a personal-best 100 Fly Time of 48.83 (converted) at the TYR/CMU Invitational… Was second on the team and fourth on the RMAC’s season-long performers list with that time… Also ranks eighth in CMU history with that mark… Had a converted personal best time of 1:45.41 in the 200 Free at the Intermountain Shootout to begin his collegiate career.

Prep: 2023 graduate of Aliso Niguel High School… Was the class valedictorian with an overall weighted GPA of 4.4… Earned the seal of biliteracy… Helped led the Jon Puffer coached Wolverines to a South Coast league title… Was a CIF Finalist in both 2022 and 2023… Was a state finalist in 2022.

Club: Swam for Dolphin Aquatics, coached by Rod Snyder… Was the 100 fly team record holder in all age groups… Qualified for junior nationals in that event in both 2022 and 2023.

Personal: Is majoring in mechanical engineering… Son of Nick Zappas and Renee Zappas-Sims… Lists surfing, body boarding, snowboarding, camping and being outdoors.

Why I Chose CMU: “I chose CMU because of the coaching staff and the tight bond between teammates.  The engineering program is every engaging as well.”
