Summer 2024: Qualified for and participated in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis… Finished 65th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 56.14 seconds… Set an personal-best 50 (LCM) best of 26.65 seconds over the first half… Qualified with a time of 55.57 seconds in the preliminary round of the Longhorn Elite meet in Austin, Texas.

2023-24 (Junior): Earned a quartet of Second Team CSCAA All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Championships… Placed ninth as the consolation final winner in the 200 Back while placing tenth in the 100 Back… Also helped the Mavs finish tenth in both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays… Posted a personal-best (SCY) 100 Back time of 47.37 in the finals… Ranks second behind only fellow U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier Ben Sampson in CMU history with that time… Also ranks second in the 200 Back with his personal best time of 1:44.02 (converted) from the TYR/CMU Invitational… Won thee RMAC relay titles and four first team all-conference honors at the RMAC Championships… Helped the Mavs set the RMAC Championship and El Pomar Natatorium records in the 400 Free Relay, anchoring the team to a time of 2:55.30… Also won the 200 Medley (1:27.27) and 200 Free Relay crowns… Was second behind Sampson in the 100 Back and reached the championship final in all four of his individual events… Placed sixth in the 200 Back and 50 Free while taking seventh in the 100 Fly… Accounted for 54 team points in his four individual events to rank eighth (tie) in the overall meet… Also contributed 30 more points when counting his share of relay points… Won the 100 Back at the TYR/CMU Invitational while taking second in the 200 Back at that meet… Won the 100 Back in the Nov. 3 dual at Wyoming… Swam in all 11 meets of the season… Finished the year ranked second behind only Sampson on the RMAC performance list in both the 100 and 200 Back… Was tied for ninth in the 100 Fly at 49.32, a time set during the TYR meet.

Summer 2023: Set multiple LCM personal-bests at the USA Swimming Futures Championship in San Antonio, Texas… Finished sixth in the 100 back after posting a PB time of 58.02 in the prelims… Also had PB times of 2:10.55 (200 Back), 59.63 (100 Fly) and a season-best of 59.63 in the 50 free.

2022-23 (Sophomore): Earned a CSCAA Second Team All-America honor in his first NCAA Championship meet, placing 12th in the 200 back… Also finished 18th in the 100 back… Had also claimed Second Team All-RMAC plaudits in both backstroke events at the RMAC Championships, finishing third in the 200 and fourth in the 100… Was also a First Team All-RMAC performer in the 200 medley relay, swimming the third leg on the second place team… Scored 49 team points in his four individual events at the conference meet, placing eighth in the 50 free and tenth in the 100 free… Also swam legs on the “B” heat winning 400 medley and 400 free relay teams contributing another 17 team ½ points when accounting for his share of the relay points… Had qualified for the NCAA meet based on his backstroke performances at the TYR CMU Invitational… Won the 100 back and placed second in the 200 back at that meet, posting his season-best altitude-adjusted times of 48.29 and 1:45.36 in the preliminary rounds… Also set a season-best 50 free time of 20.70 at the TYR meet before setting a season-best of 47.29 in the 100 free at the Maverick Last Chance Qualifier held between the RMAC and NCAA Championships… Competed in all 11 of the team’s swim meets overall.

2021-22 (Freshman): Competed in ten meets, including the RMAC Championships… Scored in all four of his individual and all seven of his events at the conference meet… Won a conference title in the 200 free relay while picking up First Team All-RMAC honors… Was also a second team all-conference performer in both backstroke events, finishing third in both the 100 and 200 back… Set a personal best and NCAA “B” cut time of 48.11 (altitude-adjusted) in the 100 back to rank fourth in program history… Finished seventh in the 50 free after posting a PB time of 20.67 in the preliminary heats… Placed 13th in the 100 fly and scored 48 team points in his four individual events… Accounted for another 19 team points in the relays after helping swimming the lead-off backstroke leg on the Mavs’ “B” heat winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams around his “A” relay win in the 200 free… Helped the Mavs set NCAA qualifying times of 1:20.33 (200 free) and 3:15.73 (400 Medley) in those relays… Had also set an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:47.41 in the 200 Back at the A3 Performance Invitational, finishing second… Won the 100 back at the Air Force tri-meet… Named as  Second Team CSCAA Scholar All-American.  

Prep: 2021 graduate of Windsor High School… Finished fifth in both the 100 back and 50 free at the 2021 4A State Championships as a senior… Also helped the Wizards take second in the 200 free relay and fifth in the 200 medley relay… Had also placed third in the 100 back and fifth in the 50 free at the 2019 state meet after taking fourth in the 100 back and eighth in the 50 free as a freshman in 2018.

Club: Placed third at the 2018 Gulf Swimming Southern Senior Championships and fourth at that year’s Colorado Senior Long Course Championships in the 100 back while representing the Loveland Swim Club.

Personal: Is majoring in exercise science… Son of Ryan and Colleen Scoggin… Has two older siblings— Alexia and Matthew… Aspires to show what someone can go after tearing their ACL twice.

Why I Chose CMU: “I really liked the coaching staff and facilities. It was all around the best fit for me to succeed.”
